Now that turkey day has passed, it is time to deck the halls. While I was at Justin’s parent’s home over the weekend, I got to play with his mom’s holiday craft supplies. I decided to make a wreath for our apartment.
She pulled out all sorts of holiday goodies for me to choose from along with a handful of faux pine wreaths to use as a base. The plastic pine needles shed a lot less than real ones, and and pine-scented candle will provide a longer-lasting scent. I chose cinnamon-scented pine cones, gold ribbon, and a branch of golden leaves to decorate the wreath.
To make this wreath:
24″ plastic pine wreath
6-8 small cinnamon-scented pine cones
2 dozen gold plastic leaves
several feet of gold wire-rimmed ribbon
2 gold pine cleaners
hot glue gun
Directions:
Glue together splays of three leaves. Allow to dry. Make a decorative bow with the ribbon and pipe cleaners (see helpful video ) Fluff pine branches to desired appearance. Affix decorative bow to wreath with pipe cleaner. Arrange leaf splays around the wreath, then glue them down. Glue a pine cone on top of each splay of leaves. Allow to dry completely before hanging.
Not too shabby for a first attempt at making a fancy bow, all credit goes to the how-to Youtube video.
I like the natural look of the pine cones mixed with the green pine. The gold goes with my apartment, so the wreath looks perfectly at home above the TV set.
How do you like to decorate your home for the holidays? With lights, candles, trees, garlands, gold, or all of the above?
