There are savannas all over the resort and trails where you can walk and see animals like the reticulated giraffe, zebra, impala, and eland walking around.
However my recommendation is that you pick a "Savannah view" room. That way you can watch the animals wander around from the comfort of your balcony. It's simply amazing. Currently as I type this there are 4 giraffe, 3 zebra, and one Ruppell's Griffon vulture outside my room.
I know I just said this but amazing. It's amazing.
The Animal Kingdom lodge has two African themed restaurants, Boma and Jiko. I'm interested to eat there, but I've been alone on this trip so I didn't feel it was worth the expense. Last night I ordered a salad from room service and it was just okay.
Yesterday I also spent some time in the gym which is wonderful. There's a full set of life fitness machines, dumbbells, and a smith machine.
I got in some treadmill time in my new Raw Threads "Boston Wicked Strong" shirt. Love.
Another plus of this resort is that it's a "host resort" for the Everest weekend, therefore there are buses to take runners and families to all the events. If you come for a RunDisney event, try to find a host resort and take advantage of the stress-free transportation.
This morning was the kick off for the Expedition Everest running events. We had the kids races and the first-ever Family Edition Challenge. We also had rain. Boo.
The Family Edition Challenge was a very cool events. Families were given a clue book and map and had to race all over ESPN's Wide World of Sports looking for clues and answers. Then they raced to the finish inside the track. It was very cool to see families smiling, laughing and crossing the finish line together.
Tonight and 10pm we'll kick off the Expedition Everest Challenge at Animal Kingdom and runners can party in Dinoland until 3am! Wowza!
Have you ever stayed at Animal Kingdom lodge?
What's the coolest hotel you've ever been to?
