Home Dairy Free Delicious dairy-free alternatives to regular ice cream

This post is totally inspired by today’s pregnancy craving for a milkshake and the fact that we’ve been blessed with nice warm weather here in Charlotte over the past few days.

Warm weather = ice cream, right?

If you also have a dairy sensitivity, you know that it isn’t easy to satisfy a random milkshake craving.  I mean, they’re not exactly giving out dairy-free milkshakes at Steak ‘n Shake.  Yes, there’s always the option to make one at home, but it’s just not as much fun.  I realize that there are more devastating problems a person could have, but seriously, it’s such a bummer to go out for fro-yo with girlfriends when the only option is some bizarre flavor of overly sweet sorbet.

Luckily, times seem to be changing, and some companies are starting to catch on to the fact that not everyone can tolerate dairy and that many people are actually trying to avoid it for health reasons.

Delicious dairy free alterntives to regular ice cream

Here’s how you can get your ice cream fix if you’re going out… TCBY

TCBY literally answered my prayers when they teamed up with Silk and made chocolate and vanilla frozen yogurt.  By the way, they also have a flavor made with Greek yogurt (which my body can tolerate for some reason).

Here are some options if you feel like relaxing at home on the couch with a chick-flick… Almond Dream

This is one of my favorite brands of ice cream because there are so many different flavor options, such as mint chip, strawberry, praline crunch, and cappuccino swirl.   I love good old fashioned chocolate and vanilla, but it is always nice to have options.

Rice Dream Non-Dairy Frozen Desserts

If you’re not a fan of coconut, almond, or soy milks, you might want to try this brand of ice cream which is made with rice milk.  Again, there are so many options- even frozen pies!

So Delicious Dairy-Free Frozen Desserts

From bars, pints of ice cream, and ice cream sandwiches, these almond milk desserts can satisfy any craving.

Coconut Bliss

This ice cream tastes incredibly decadent.  It is made with coconut milk and coconut oil making it a bit higher in fat than some of the others, but we all need some good healthy fats in our diet.  We might as well eat them in the form of dessert!

Tofutti

I don’t know this for a fact or anything, but it sure seems like Tofutti was among the first brands to make dairy-free frozen desserts accessible to the public. In fact, Tofutti Cuties, their ice cream sandwiches, have been a favorite of mine for years.

And if you feel like making a super healthy alternative at home, try this recipe… Banana Soft Serve

All you need to make this are frozen bananas and a blender.   It’s even easier than getting in the car and driving to Steak ‘n Shake- and a whole lot healthier too.

Do you have a favorite dairy-free frozen dessert?  I have my spoon all ready!
