Creating a Quiet Time Place

Posted Nov 27 2008 10:51am

I was constantly getting disturbed during my quiet time - the kids would chatter getting ready for school, the cat would want to sit on my lap, my husband would sit next to me and want to talk, the computer would call to me. My office has no door and reminds me of work and my husband is usually sleeping through most of my quiet time so the bedroom was not the right choice either.

Then I remembered a small roll top desk I bought this summer at a garage sale. It is rare for me to pick up something I didn’t know whether I would ever have a use for, but as long as I remembered I have always wanted a roll top desk.

So tonight I found a place for the purchase in the basement with enough light. Then I lovingly polished the desk with orange oil.

I gathered items from around the house. On top of the desk I placed much of my unicorn collection, a picture I took of a cross by a lake, candles, glittery jewelry and a few sentimental stones and shells.

Inside the cubby holes I put matches for the candles and cards like 52 ways to be kind and 52 tokens of affection. A beautiful red and gold paper box holds pens, scissors and glue.  I put a few puzzles there for fun. And most importantly my Bible, books I have been using during my quiet time lately and my journal.

Over the chair I put a maroon shawl with sparkly tassels for a wrap in case it gets cold.

Now I have my own space where I won’t be disturbed that is filled with things I love and inspires creativity. Do you have a space of your own?
