Cranberry juice has been a home remedy for urinary tract infections (UTI) for a long time. Previous studies have found that the chemical compounds found in cranberry juice are not destroyed by the digestive system, which helps these compounds to fight bacteria. A recent study out of Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts affirms this medicinal use of cranberry juice.
Researchers grew E. coli in urine collected from healthy folks before and after they drank cranberry juice. The researchers found that the E. coli in the “cranberry juice pee” couldn’t bond to other bacteria which made it hard for E. coli to multiply and cause infection. Urinary tract infections occur more often in women than men and account for several doctors’ visits each year. To avoid the massive amounts of sugar in most juices and to ward off urinary tract infections drink 100% cranberry juice.
Remember that an apple a day may keep the doctor away but the juice of a cranberry keeps your urinary system light, bright and merry.
