Connock London Kukui Soothing Bath Oil and Oil Soup

Posted Mar 13 2011 1:04pm
I was recently contacted by a PR firm representing several luxury face and body products and asked whether I'd like to try and review some. Of course I said yes! I was sent a whole host of goodies so I'm going to split the reviews up a bit into bite sized posts :)

I was sent two items from Connock London, their Kukui Oil Soap and Kukui Oil Soothing Bath Oil.

I had never heard of this brand - to be honest, there are lots of high end brands I'm not familiar with! Here's some info about the company
"The Connock London bath & body range was developed by Amanda Connock out of a love and respect for nature, native folklore and family. "I am inspired by the untiring work of my father who travelled extensively in search of exotic and innovative ingredients. He instilled in me a passion to seek out natural beauty secrets found in far flung corners of the world. Dad would come home with wonderful oils and stories of how they were used to great effect in their native countries although they were not well known here. I want to instil this passion in others and tell those stories again. Connock London products are for those who like to dream of faraway places, to experience the wonderful textures and fragrances of unusual natural ingredients and thus discover beautiful skin and a truly special kind of indulgence. All the ingredients used are personally selected by me to ensure they are of the highest quality and safety."

And here's the blurb about the kukui oils used in the products
"The idea for Kukui Oil products harks back to a trip we took as a family to the South Pacific. I instantly fell in love with the Hawaiian Islands - their wild and natural beauty, the warm, softly scented air and the spirit of the people. It was then that I began to understand Dad's passion. This beautiful place had so many wonderful treasures to be discovered.

Hundreds of years ago Hawaiians learned that when the shells were removed from Kukui nuts and the kernels lightly roasted a clear oil could be pressed out that softened and soothed the skin. I went with Dad to watch the local women continuing this tradition of shelling Kukui nuts and pressing the oil from the kernels.

I have sourced the Kukui Oil used in Connock London products from a small factory on the Hawaiian island of Oahu. The owners of this factory are close family friends and I have visited them many times over the years. I have witnessed the whole production process from the nuts being harvested from the Hawaiian mountains to the oil being pressed, refined and packaged."

Further info on the other ingredients used can be found here .

I've been using the soap and bath oil for a few weeks now. First up, the soaps

A set of four fragrant and creamy soaps that leave skin clean, soft and delicately scented.

  • 100% vegetable base with highly moisturising blend of Kukui Oil and Shea Butter.
  • Produces an abundant, creamy lather that washes off easily.
  • Individually wrapped in a stylish boxed set - an ideal present.
The packaging is lovely - really high quality. The products looks luxe and expensive and reminds me of something you'd find in a high end boutique hotel.

Each are individually wrapped

The scent hits you straight away from inside the box - it's a strong fragrance, but not overpowering, and really reminds me of a hotel/spa product. The scent is actually quite unisex, which is lovely - it gives it a more grown up feel and adds to the expensive element.

I'm not normally a soap person (apart from those from Lush !) - I find they can be quite drying on my skin and to be honest, they can be a bit old fashioned seeming. But, I've been enjoying using this soap, it lathers up really well and feels creamy and not at all drying. The fragrance is lovely and leaves the skin slightly scented. My skin felt smooth after using this, it didn't feel particulary moisturised but definitely didn't feel dried out either.

The set costs £25.55, which I think is pretty reasonable for 4 soaps, if you're looking for something a bit special and pampering.

The other Connock product I tried was the Soothing Bath oil

A highly conditioning bath oil containing a powerful blend of Kukui, Macadamia and Tamanu Oils.

  • Macadamia Oil hydrates and protects skin.
  • Tamanu Oil improves skin elasticity and accelerates healing.
  • Comforts and soothes dry, sensitive or irritated skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis.
  • Oil diffuses on contact with water to create a luxurious milky bath.
  • Delicate fragrance instils a sense of calm and relaxation.
  • Stunning glass oil decanter makes a beautiful gift.
Again, this product is beautifully packaged and feels very high quality. I love the glass bottle.

This has the same lovely fragrance as the soaps and really filled my bathroom with a gorgeous scent for hours!

The oil became milky on contact with water, and didn't make the bath water that oily at all - to be honest I wouldn't have guessed there was any oil in the bath at all had I not known.
I do use bath oils every now and then and I actually like the moisturising feel they normally bring. However, this oil was very subtle and didn't leave any trace on my skin - which I was a bit disappointed with as I do usually like the extra moisture of bath oils. My skin did feel very smooth and comfortable after using this though and was nicely scented. But I wouldn't say this product was anything special - for me, I would prefer something that is more obvious in the bath and on the skin, something like bog standard baby oil would do the job! Plus it left my bath quite greasy!

The oil costs £42.90, so is a little on the pricey side in my opinion, especially for something that smells nice but doesn't really offer much else.

The Connock range extends further to bath and body products as well as candles and the Wonder Balm which I may keep my eye out for. They can be purchased from Harrods and these stockists .

Are you familiar with Connock? Do you like spending a bit extra on luxury products?
