Have you heard of carpal tunnel syndrome?  It can be very painful.  But, have you heard of Computer Vision Syndrome? Also known asCVS,  it is the most common computer related hazard. The American Optometric Association states,  computer vision syndrome to be a “complex of eye and vision problems.”

CVS symptoms are: blurred vision, shoulder pain, eyestrain, headaches, and neck pain. And sometimes, I noticed,  exessive strain when tired can also cause nausea, stressed stomach.

But, as long as you are aware of the problem you can actually decrease the related problems.

1) Monitor Your Monitor

Make sure that your vision and the monitor/screen are in zinc.  You should not have to unnaturally move you body in order to see the screen while working.  Make sure you also place whatever you are reading / or copying from at a comfortable level and place so you do not have to stress your body or your eyes..

2) Glare Care

Make sure you do not have excessive glare on the screen.  If you do then find where it is coming from and fix it?

Make sure that the lighing you are working in is comfortable for you.  You should not work in the dark.

Make sure your screen is clean.

3) Take A Break

Take you breaks!  The computer is the easiest place to lose track of time.  Try to get up and stretch and look away every hour.  This includes videos.  Both the computer and videos will cause you to decrease your blinking rate. Try to look away from the screen every 10 minutes, for about 10 seconds, at something 10 feet away.  The rebuild your vision program calls this the 10-10-10 rule.

And remember, always talk to an eye professional about any issues, concerns, worries!
