Hi Bloggies!  How's Monday been for you?  For those of you who set your clocks ahead, are you feeling any negative effects after losing your hour of sleep?  We don't do the clock thing in Arizona.  So half the year (now) we are the same as Pacific Time Zone, and half the year we are the same as Mountain Time Zone.   Since I've only lived here 6 months and frankly can't wait to get back to California as soon as possible, and hopefully I won't be here for the clock change in the fall!  This morning I went to a hot power yoga class and got my yoga groove on, came home, and have been busy with life stuff like returning accountant's phone calls, paying bills, and most importantly, being a Mom!
I'm glad you enjoyed my Highlights of the Week Recap Post from Yesterday.  Check it Out if You Missed It..

And in yesterday's post I asked you what crazy things you've done in the name of beauty after mentioning my self-tanner escapades, and I loved hearing about all the crazy things you've done in the name of "beauty" !  Danielle , can I borrow your blue chapstick?  Sounds like many of you have succumbed to too many tanning bedsI am guilty as charged on that one in my younger days as well.

So, Moving onto some weekend Target Finds...
Dr Bronner's Soap was $1.04 per bar.  Score!
I happened to go to a health food & supplements store right after leaving Target and saw this soap for $3.99 per bar.  I felt like such a Smart Shopper scoring it for a buck each!  Did I hear my name on the Price is Right, Averie C'Mon Down, You're the Next Savvy Suburban Soap Buyer on the Price is Right!  haha!

Vegan, smells awesome.  I wonder if it will work on my face without causing breakouts?
Lately, as I mentioned in This Post , I've been using this Aveeno bar for $2.87 and have not had any breakouts whatsoever!
Usually the word Moisturizing would Freak Me Out because I'd fear breakout city, but not at all.  The oatmeal in the bar seems to be doing great with my mush.

Thanks Again to Reader Michelle who tipped my off about Aveeno's Bar Soaps. So I restocked on the Aveeno at Tar-jay.

Also in This Post I found this fair trade organic Ethiopian coffee which has been nice, and I've enjoyed it...
...But, I was on Gmail Buzz which I really don't even fully understand and I am an extremely causal user, i.e. I almost never check it, but I noticed a conversation between K's Good Eats and Julie Go Lean that the Smores Coffee Rocks.
So I snagged a bag and OMG yes, it is so good.  I swear to God it felt like I was drinking smores! And I added a little So Delicious Coconut Milk Vanilla Creamer  and chugged 2 huge cups sipped my Smores in a Cup.
It's probably not the greatest of coffees from an organic, healthy perspective.  But it's coffee.  It's not supposed to cure cancer or make me enlightened.  And it makes the house smell like Girl Scouts 'round the campfire and I love that!  Soon, I'll crack open the Caramel Coffee!

Today's Recipe and Fun Facts...
I know that many people in the 'sphere love coconut in many forms: Coconut Oil , Coconut Butter, Coconut Water, Coconut Milk, Coconut Flour.

Heather makes coconut butter , Jessica makes coconut desserts, the Twins use coconut in their Raw Creations, Evan uses coconut oil in chocolate, Katie tops her pancakes with it, Gena roasts with it, Michele adores it, Mama Pea bakes with it, you name it, there are some coconut lovers out there, for sure!  And one coconut hater, Crafty Katie , we need to chat!

I even put the stuff in my hair !

Today's recipe uses Coconut Water as a "Nature's Gatorade" of sorts.  Science and Health lesson first ( source ):
Coconut Water is naturally:
  • Low in Carbs
  • 99% Fat Free
  • Low in sugars
  • Coconut Water is more nutritious than whole milk - Less fat and NO cholesterol.
  • Coconut Water is More Healthy than Orange Juice - Much lower calories.
  • Coconut Water is Better than processed baby milk - It contains lauric acid, which is present in human mother's milk.
  • Coconut water is naturally sterile - Water permeates though the filtering husk.
  • Coconut water is a universal donor - Its identical to human blood plasma.
  • Coconut Water is a Natural Isotonic Beverage - The same level we have in our blood.
  • Coconut water has saved lives in 3rd world countries thru Coconut IV. In fact, during the Pacific War of 1941-45, both sides in the conflict regularly used coconut water - siphoned directly from the nut - to give emergency plasma transfusions to wounded soldiers.
  • Coconut water is the very stuff of Nature, biologically Pure, full of Natural Sugars, Salts, and Vitamins to ward off fatigue and is the next wave of energy drinks.  And, natural.
  • Coconut water contains more potassium (at about 294 mg) than most sports drinks (117 mg) and most energy drinks.
  • Coconut water has less sodium (25mg) where sports drinks have around 41mg and energy drinks have about 200 mg.
  • Coconut water has 5mg of Natural Sugars where sports and energy drinks range from 10-25mg of Altered Sugars.
  • Coconut water is very high in Chloride at 118mg, compared to sports drinks at about 39mg.
  • Great hangover remedy because of the high potassium
Coconut water contains organic compounds possessing healthy growth promoting properties that have been known to help
  1. Keep the body cool and at the proper temperature.
  2. Orally re-hydrate your body, it is an all natural isotonic beverage.
  3. Carry nutrients and oxygen to cells.
  4. Naturally replenish your body's fluids after exercising.
  5. Raise your metabolism.
  6. Promote weight loss.
  7. Boost your immune system.
  8. Detoxify and fight viruses.
  9. Cleanse your digestive tract.
  10. Control diabetes.
  11. Aid your body in fighting viruses that cause the flu, herpes, and AIDS.
  12. Balance your PH and reduce risk of cancer.
  13. Treat kidney and urethral stones.
  14. Boost poor circulation.
I hope that wasn't too boring, but I do love some food science factoids.  Alton Brown, I adore thee.  For my last science lesson on Cinnamon , Click Here

Averie's Coconut Water Natural Sports Drink Recipe
The Base
12 oz Coconut Water and feel free to use the whole liter if you're opening a container of it (if you don't have fresh coconut, popular brands are Zico , O.N.E . or VitaCoco )
1 Tsp Salt (sea salt is preferred but any will work)
1 Tbsp Agave or Honey (this is optional but the slow-releasing carbs in agave are excellent for replenishing.  Or use 1-2 Medjool dates but you will have to run it through your blender or Vita first. Or, use stevia to sweeten it.  Or use none of the above and don't add any sweetener at all, your choice)

The Flavoring Elements: Pick One or a Combination
2 Tbsp Lemon, Lime, or Orange Juice
For an Energizing Replenishing Sports Drink, Steep 1 bag of your Favorite Tea in the mixture
Add Vanilla Extract or Vanilla Stevia Drops for Vanilla Coconut Water Sports Drink
Add Coffee or Hazelnut Extract
Add a Pinch of Ginger for an Anti-Inflammatory Sports Drink.  (Ginger is a power anti-inflammatory and very soothing to sore muscles)
Add 1-2 Tbsp of Your Fave Juice, i.e. Pomegranate or Grape or Apple

The Flavor combinations are endless...
All You Really Need is Coconut Water, a Pinch of Salt, and then Flavor it How You See Fit.
Some of the Flavoring Options You Can Add
Now that warmer weather is hopefully just around the corner, I hope no one feels the need to "replenish" with commercially-produced sports drinks when Coconut Water will do everything and then some without any of the junk you're going to find in those neon-colored beverages!

Another Great way to use Coconut Water is by making your own Coconut Milk KefirPlease see This Post for the Recipe and Info.
3 Ingredients: Coconut Water, Coconut Milk, and Kefir Starter.  And it sits on your countertop.
It is so easy and the fermented coconut milk kefir is so good for you with all kinds of healthy bacteria; nature's probiotics!  Not to mention you will not have to shell out the big bucks for the store-bought Coconut Milk Kefir anymore!

Yoga Today is Camel (Ustrasana).   Open your heart chakra, let the love in.  And give extra special thanks & gratitude to the Universe this week for all the lovely blessings you DO HAVE in your life today!  Even if life isn't perfect, there's always something to be grateful for.  What are you grateful for today?
In other Astrology, Natural Rhythms, and Yoga-Related Matters, it's a New Moon Today (source: My beloved Guru Tim Miller's Website .  Another reason I want to get back to San Diego is to practice with him again!)
The new moon energy corresponds to the end of exhalation when the force of apana is greatest. Apana is a contracting, downward moving force that makes us feel calm and grounded, but dense and disinclined towards physical exertion.

The Farmers Almanac recommends planting seeds at the new moon when the rooting force is strongest and transplanting at the full moon when the flowering force is strongest.

You may find yourself feeling:
A bit lackluster
Your workouts may be a total "forced effort today"
You may be tired, drowsy; sleep may come very easy tonight or last night
You energy may be depleted
You may just want to rest today and lay low today

3. Running Skirts...Cute or Goofy?  Source

I saw a woman wearing one today (not this picture shown above) and hers was basic black and she was a buff babe and she was rockin' it but not sure how I feel about these.
Do any of you wear or own them?  Or do you think I could rock it or would I just look goofy and like I need to return Britney's skirt to her?  Fashion Do or Don't?
