City Chase Part 2 – First 5 Chase Points

Posted Sep 29 2010 12:00am

*If you missed Part 1, check it out here .* I’ll apologize now for the lack of pictures in the beginning of this post, but when you’re running all over Manhattan the camera isn’t the first thing on your mind!

Out of the 40 chase points, we had to complete 10. No one chase point was required, however you were required to complete chase points in certain “zones.” You are only allowed to walk, run, or take the subway. No cabs, cars, bikes, skateboards, etc.

The boy and I really wanted to get started with the first chase point. We decoded one clue called “Brain Freeze” and knew that it was in Washington Square. Since we were already in Lower Manhattan we decided to start there.

We set off running in search for the nearest subway station. While running, we asked people on the street for the subway and were pointed in the right direction. A few blocks in we came across a line of city chasers and knew we had accidentally stumbled upon a chase point without even meaning to! We decided to complete it, and then head to Washington Square.

There was quite the line for this chase point, probably because it was so close to the starting line and others stumbled upon it like we did. It was called “Rated R” and the clue was “Follow @citychaseusa on Twitter to see whose domain we are being held in.”

Well, it was an S&M store. That’s whose “domain” we were in! We had to dress in bondage attire and run a block. We couldn’t return until we had received a business card from a random person on the street. Wow- did we get some dirty looks! I do not have any pictures from this but wish you could’ve seen Pete dressed in a wig and tight skirt and me with my giant handcuffs. We got a business card pretty quick after I kept explaining we were in a race and to please help us complete this part- most people didn’t even speak to us hahaha.

We ran out and hopped on the L train down to Washington Square.

On the train…trying to decode more chase points.

The Washington Square chase point was titled “Brain Freeze” with the clue stating “We know what you’re thinking, are we serving up some ice cream? Find us at the Washington Square Fountain and the temperature in your mouth will be extreme.” We thought we were going to have to eat something either super hot, super cold, or just plain gross.

When we got there, Pete had to chew two frozen pieces of bubble gum. He then had to give it to me and I had to blow a bubble. This was lameeee but we got it done quickly. 2 down.

For our third, we killed two birds with one stone. We headed to the New York Sports Club on Wall Street for a chase point titled “2 Mile Challenge.” For this you had to either bike or run two miles. One person could do it, or you could split it up one mile each. Pete decided to start and if he got tired I would take over. Pete literally gets on, puts it on level 4 resistance, and completes 2 miles in 2 MINUTES!! The guy goes, “Your mileage looks like seconds” hahaha.

We also had previously raised money for Lungevity, which counted as a chase point if you raised enough. You were able to turn in this paperwork at the 2 Mile Challenge to get credit. So we got 2 more punches on our bib before leaving.

The fifth challenge was called “BAM!!” and the clue was “Merch Meat Moxing”. We figured out that this rhymes with “Church Street Boxing.” This was a whole in the wall boxing joint which we never would’ve found if we hadn’t seen chasers coming out of it! It resembled the boxing place from the movie . There were pictures of boxers all over the walls with a ring and punching bags.

We had to team up at a bag and the instructor led us through a series of boxing moves that we had to alternate doing. Whew- we worked up a sweat. Then we had to drop down and do ten push-ups in order to check out and get our punch.

This was SO gross- when we put on the gloves they were sweaty from the person previously wearing them- ewww! I bathed my hands in hand sanitizer after this!

Halfway done! Tomorrow’s post will explain the last five chase points.
