Chocolate Goji Berry Smoothie

Posted Oct 27 2011 5:00am

Hey, People!

Sorry I’ve been a little MIA!

I know you’ve all missed me terribly. Lots of stuff going on in my land. Lots of continuing ed to pick/study and catch up on and lots of work/client stuff, writing stuff, workout stuff and life stuff. I love feeling productive though!

Hopefully I am back…for now Winking smile

Thanks so much for all the feedback on Bikram yoga . I look forward to trying it this weekend<—if all goes well and Michael doesn’t protest us forgoing family brunch or going solo watching Ella [on football Sunday]. But I think he will survive.

Okay..so I have been obsessed with raw cacao this week. It’s in my oatmeal, it’s in my pudding/mousse [a soon coming recipe], it’s in my smoothies and even in my Quinoa !

With that being said, for today’s Thirsty Thursday I will give you the post workout smoothie recipe I’ve been loving this week!

Goji Berries

Goji berries are a superfood loaded with antioxidants. They also have compounds rich in vitamin A that may have anti-aging benefits. These special compounds help boost immune function, protect vision, and may help prevent heart disease. Some research suggests that goji berry extracts may boost brain health and may protect against age-related diseases such as Alzheimer’s.

I first discovered goji berried when shopping at Arrowroot Health Food store in Bryn Mawr with my mom about 6 years ago. It was the new buzz on the health food scene. I remember them having a bowl out for samples and my mom and I loved them. I was addicted to the [then so expensive] bags of dried goji berries. We were making trips bi-weekly to stock up!

Now a days I will occasionally buy some goji berry trail mix. I like it because I don’t like it that much. It’s kind of bland, and I pretty much can eat anything “healthy” but this I can only do like a handful. It’s not bad, don’t get me wrong. It’s just not particularly tasty.  When I don’t have time to prepare food and I have all this good stuff to make, but am too starved or pressed for time… I tend to go crazy with the raw almonds or whatever trail mix I make at whole foods. When I buy ^this goji berry trail mix I simply can’t overdo it…the portion control is there. It’s super healthy though…loaded with raw unsalted seeds and the superfood berry. This is definitely an “eat to live” item for me. Not a “live to eat” one.

For the above recipe I bought some frozen goji berries. These are great for smoothies and even some other desserts [recipe next week]. And they are affordable for the amount you are getting!

Have you tried goji berries? Do you eat them regularly?

What’s your favorite berry?

Gimme a shout out with your Thirsty Thursday drink [or recipe]?? GO!

Tomorrow I will be posting a killer leg workout for the Friday 5!

See you then!
