Chocolate coffee and weekend plans

Posted Feb 01 2011 6:23pm

Oh. My. Abs.

The Ab Jam video I did yesterday from Turbo Jam was no joke and I am seriously feeling it this morning. I guess we’ll see if I make it through my Boot Camp DVD today or not.

I started my morning off with a new coffee. Yes, this makes the third bag I have open. Don’t worry—I’m not buying anymore until they are used up, I just like to have a few in rotation.

The packaging for this was adorable. My sister-in-law gave me this for Christmas (along with the dark chocolate peppermint coffee I’ve been enjoying). This coffee is pretty local to my hometown, which is neat.

The label made me laugh. Ain’t it the truth!

The coffee itself is actually really good. It has a unique flavor that almost reminds me of the caramel syrup used in coffee shops. Thumbs up.

While coffee was preparing itself to be pressed, I made oatmeal.

One of the best bowls I’ve had in a while. I waited until just before taking the pot off the stove to stir in the chia seeds and cinnamon. The chia seeds provided less volume and more crunch. I like crunch.

In today’s bowl:

  • 1/3 cup steel cut oatmeal
  • 1 1/3 cups water
  • 1 banana
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • generous shake of ground cinnamon
  • about 1 tbsp almond butter

Sadly, the almond butter is gone. There’s enough left for some Oats in a Jar , though.

I’m thinking it will make a fun Friday breakfast to kick off the start to an awesome weekend we have planned.

This weekend marks the start of the Chinese New Year ( the year of the rabbit ) and some friends are going to Yokohama, home to one of the world’s biggest Chinatowns to celebrate on Sunday. J and I are going down on Friday evening to explore for the weekend and visit a fun amusement park/aquarium as an early birthday celebration for me.

It’s going to be a total blast and we found a great-looking hostel to keep travel costs down, too. I don’t think you can beat only $25/night/person for a BED. <—remember, I sleep on a Japanese futon on a tatami floor . I get excited about the possibility of a bed.
