Merry Christmas Eve everyone! I hope that you are all having a wonderful day. Poor Danny is sick and has been in bed all day. He thinks maybe he ate something bad last night and has food poisoning. And he never gets sick – so it figures that the one time he gets sick is Christmas Eve.
The other day the kids and I made a special treat for Christmas Eve – chocolate candy cane hearts.
It was really simple and great for kids to do. I found the idea on Pinterest. And the best part is that you only need three ingredients.
Mini candy canes
Chocolate chips – we used milk chocolate and white chocolate
Sprinkles (or crushed candy canes)
First, put wax paper on a cookie sheet and form hearts with all the mini candy canes, We had two boxes of candy canes and it made about 25 hearts. It would have made more but a few were broken and a few might have found their way into my mouth.
Then I melted about half a bag of white chocolate chips in the microwave, stirring every thirty seconds, until they were melted.
Scoop the melted chocolate into a ziploc bag and snip the corner off. Then we squeezed the chocolate into the middle of the candy canes, filling it in completely. Then the kids went to town pouring sprinkles over the chocolate.
We did the same thing with the milk chocolate, and then put the cookie sheets in the fridge for an hour or two so that the chocolate can harden.
They were super easy, turned out really cute, and the kids loved making them. I think I ended up getting messier than they did!
