Cheap But Chic Logies

Posted May 02 2010 7:53pm
Well, Australian television's night of nights ( The Logies ) has been run and, for a few lucky souls, won.  Did you watch it?  I was doing the classic channel surf, flicking between that and House.  My week doesn't quite feel complete without a dose of Dr Gregory!

Like with any glamorous awards night like the Emmy's or the Oscar's, in todays papers and online coverage, there is plenty of discussion about the place getters and of course the most important part of the night - the frocks.  As I have blogged about here at Beautiful You before I am not a fan of Best and Worst Dressed Lists.   So often they are cruel and demeaning - all over a dress choice.

This is not to say of course I don't enjoy looking at all the glitz and glamour and I thought many of the ladies last night looked absolutely gorgeous.  I had my personal favourites, but my overall choice of the night for a special reason was Georgie Parker in this purple gown.

The reason I love Georgie's choice here is that she was very open about the fact she bought it off the rack for $99 from Katies !  Georgie has been a spokesperson for Katies for many years but I certainly know she has been to many Logies nights and not worn one of their dresses.  She stated she decided to do so this year because she really liked it and did not see the need to pay a stylist or spend alot of money on a gown she was not likely to wear again.

Brava!

Isn't this a wonderful example of how amazing someone can look in a chain store dress that has not cost a fortune?  I think she looks great and I really applaud Georgie for showing us it can be done.  I also think she is very brave walking the red carpet amongst the many other dresses that were bespoke, designer and very, very expensive.  I think it takes real personal confidence to do that.
