Carmelized onion, green pepper, Italian sausage and sun-dried tomato Pizza

Posted Dec 13 2011 10:02am

Pizza doesn’t have to be greasy, unhealthy and from a delivery box. It can have fresh, flavorful ingredients and is something you can master on your own in your kitchen. Try crunchy green peppers with sweet carmelized onions, sun-dried tomatoes and Italian sausage with a heavy dose of garlic. Here’s my latest pizza creation.

Ingredients:

1 frozen wheat pizza crust

1 jar of tomato sauce

1 large green pepper

1 yellow onion

1/4 cup of brown sugar

1 container of sun-dried tomatoes (instead of buying jarred or canned, hit up the Greek bar at the grocery)

4 cloves of garlic

3 Italian sausages

4 cups of shredded mozzarella cheese

Directions:

Preheat oven to 425 degrees while frozen pizza crust thaws. Heat oil on medium in a pan. Add brown sugar and onions and carmelize for 15 to 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Slice green pepper, dice garlic cloves and cut sausage in quarter inch pieces. Place pizza crust on pan and spread spread thin layer of tomato sauce on pizza. Add a handful of shredded cheese and then add toppings. Add the rest of shredded cheese on toppings. Place pizza in oven for 10 to 12 minutes. Watch to make sure sun-dried tomatoes don’t burn. Take out and let cool for 10 minutes. Voila!
