It's not usually recommended to ingest ethanol with any medication. Azithromycin is metabolized by the liver (as are many chemicals) as is ethanol. There is the potential for problems taking the two together in damage to the liver. Luckily, azithromycin courses are usually only 5 days in length, so it is not a huge problem to lay off the booze for that period of time. On the other hand, if it is a huge problem to lay off the booze for 5 days, then you potentially have a different issue to deal with.
