Burning Fat Using Resveratrol: Balance is Key! (Part 1)

Posted Sep 22 2008 5:37pm

In a world where beauty is often measured by the size of your waist and the shape of our bodies, we are often faced with a dilemma not easily over come:

"How can I lose weight and be healthy without having to run 100 miles per week, following a strict low calorie diet, and even more extreme, having invasive surgical procedures done?"

The answer isn't necessarily one of such extremes or one of mental and physical anguish.  Perhaps we need to look at how society views what healthy is?  Or better yet, just accept the figures we were born with?  Unfortunately (fortunately for some), we are genetically prone to certain body types and diseases.  How many times have you looked at a fit man or woman eating pizza and washing it down with an ice cream sundae, only wishing we could do the same thing and maintain their form?  The reality is most of us can't ever do that!

The majority of us need to find a balance that keeps us healthy and at the same time is enjoyable and less restrictive.  If resveratrol can help burn fat and increase our metabolism then we might be able to accomplish just that! "A comfortable way to maintain a healthy life style without having to give up every thing we love."   That is BALANCE!

Now I am not advocating trying every diet pill, or even resveratrol, without first having a health plan in place.  My research leads me to believe resveratrol alone is probably not enough to live the healthy life we all strive for.  It all comes back to balance.  We need a balance of diet, exercise, and supplementation to offer our bodies a chance to live in an optimal (enjoyable) state.

Some might question why I added supplementation to this list.  I've added it because of the unrealistic notion that we can enjoy perfect diets, where our body gets everything it needs to run at an optimal level.   The reality of our daily lives does not make it possible to eat a "perfect" meal every day, 3 times per day.  We have children, jobs, and emergencies to juggle.  Supplementation insures our bodies receive the vitamins and nutrients it needs regardless of our eating habits and daily schedules.

How do I achieve this balance?   Simplicity is key.

Step 1: Create realistic goals with realistic time frames in which to achieve them.   Your first goal can be to write these steps out by Friday.  Or your goals may be to lose 40 pounds.  Be realistic.  This won't happen in one week or one month.  Try losing 2-4 pounds per week.

Other goal examples:

Lower Cholesterol
Running a 5k
Relieving stress
Feeling more positive
Playing with your kids without being winded
Increased self confidence
Lower body fat

Step 2: Create a realistic schedule for you to follow.   Your body and mind enjoy schedules.  It helps you to feel comfortable and know what to expect.  For example: Try to eat your meals at the same times each day.  Do the same with your workout schedule.  After a week or two with a schedule your body starts to "look forward" to each daily event.  Making your routine Second Nature is by far the best way to keep it up in the long run.

Step 3: Try as many new "healthy" foods as possible.   This step can be a little costly in the beginning but you will find enjoying your food is the only way to make a new diet work in the long run.  Try going to "Trader Joes" or "Whole Foods" and purchasing some different things.  When you find something you enjoy, write it down and start building a list of "good foods" you like.

Step 4: Research supplementation.   Ask your doctor for an opinion on a good multi-vitamin.  Or go to the local supplement store and ask them what they recommend.  I'm not a body builder but I've found BodyBuilding.com offers everything you need at very good prices.

Step 5: Add Resveratrol to your diet.   Resveratrol helps keep your cells healthy in an indirect way.  Most people overlook this part of our biology.  Our cells are what make us who we are and they shouldn't be neglected.  By activating SiRT1 resveratrol helps our cells fight for survival.  There are also a vast amount of other potentially beneficial effects of resveratrol use.

By following these five steps you can be on your way to a healthier body and mind.  Most of us taking, or thinking about taking, resveratrol are doing so to better our health in one way or another.  Don't be lazy and add "balance" to your life with exercise, fun, diet, and supplements.
