I didn’t see the news story yet, but a viewer of my DVD seminar sent me the links to these stories about brown fat or BAT (brown adipose tissue).
Art,
Once again you’re ahead of the curve…lots of interest in Brown Fat in the news today, some on TV and also on NPR. Reminded me of the your comments on surfers in the DVDs. From memory I believe that the Swedish study showed that a 15 fold increase in the calories burned by brown fat at 61F compared with 70-80F.
Of course instead of recommending that people take a cold swim, researchers are looking at drugs to further activate the brown fat burn!

I have long recommended staying cool, drinking cool water (uses energy because it cools the body), finishing a shower with a cool rinse, and deliberately exposing your self to cold now and then. They all burn energy and they restore your adaptive response to cold.
