Bright light
This piece of gear is another summer favorite – in Georgia, summer brings heat and a lack of desire to run during midday. Having a reliable, light and durable headlamp can assist during the necessary night adventures or very early morning ones.
I have owned many headlamps since my college days in Colorado. I purchased the inexpensive Mammut’s Lucido TR1 initially with skepticism as I was in a state of annoyance with headlamps. Previously, my experience with headlamps would result in a headache or discomfort because of its weight and concern because of lack of brightness. But, I was also hopeful in my purchase of the Lucido as I really enjoy running at night, and I wanted a lighter and brighter headlamp. With these conflicting views, I tried my Lucido on the roads first, and I immediately was impressed by its quality and how long the brightness lasted.
The Lucido is bright. It does not just illuminate the couple of feet in front of you. Rather, it floods many feet in front of you with such brightness that you immediately see any obstacles. In the city, I would see cracks in the sidewalk and other obstacles which could have affected my footing. With this light, my pace quickened. On the trails, the roots were covered in light and became immediately apparent. And, again – I was more daring in my steps and pace. While I was wearing the headlamp, I did not notice its weight; it is lightweight and does not move around much while you are running. The light also lasts a long time; I do not change the batteries often. And, while I was wearing it, I did not have the headaches that other headlamps had given me. Then, considering one of my favorite factors to discuss – durability, it has passed my inadvertent tests. The Lucido has been out in not ideal conditions, been dropped and subjected to other hardships, yet I still use it regularly, and I have not noticed a decrease in quality.
Since my initial purchase, I have enjoyed this headlamp immensely, and I have purchased another. I recommend it to anyone who runs, hikes, camps or generally is in need of a inexpensive and very bright headlamp.
