Home Beverages Breakfast time check-in & some new Trader Joe’s finds

16 comments Jul 25/13 Beverages, Healthy Eating, Recipes, Trader Joe's

It’s getting closer and closer to mid-morning snack time, but I still thought that I’d show you what I had for breakfast this morning anyway.

It’s breakfast time somewhere, right? :)

chocolate banana raspberry smoothie

I made a Chocolate Banana Raspberry Smoothie with:

4 ice cubes

2 large handfuls of spinach

1/2 a banana

1/2 cup of  frozen raspberries

A few slices of avocado

1 scoop of vanilla pea protein powder

1 tablespoon of ground flax seed

1/4 cup of chocolate ZICO coconut water

1 tablespoon of cacao powder

1 cup of unsweetened chocolate almond milk

Dash of cinnamon

Stevia

Even though it turned out to be very brown and ugly looking, it was also very chocolatey and delicious.

Never judge a smoothie by its color.

That’s my advice of the day.

As I told you the other day, I went to Trader Joe’s last weekend.  Being that I mostly got my usual necessities, I won’t bore you with the entire haul.

Trader Joe's finds

However, there are a few items worth showing, such as the balsamic glaze that I’ve been using on my salmon (so so so good!), the Gone Bananas! chocolate covered banana slices (perfect for satisfying any chocolate cravings), roasted plaintain chips (which are already half way gone), and Just Grilled Chicken Strips (great for salads).

Have you found anything new at the grocery store lately?

What did you have for breakfast this morning?

Have a great day!

  1. Love getting chicken strips that I can throw into a quick salad for lunch!!

  2. I can’t even look at the those choc covered bananas without wanting to rush to a TJ’s that doesn’t even exist here. Gah!!!! Never judge a smoothie by the colour, for sure ;) . Yours sounds absolutely fantastic!!

  3. Ok, I’ve got to tell you… since bananas are SO cheap at TJ’s and a bag of choc chips cost about what a box of those banana bites cost…you can TOTALLY make your own. I’ve done it twice in the past week. Just melt a few tablespoons of choc chips in a bowl in teh microwave (stir every 20ish seconds) until fully melted, dip banana slices in them, lay flat on a baking sheet, and shove in the freezer. BOOM DONE CHEAP!!

  4. that smoothie sounds delcious! Also, I will need to pick up the chocloate covered bananas next time I’m at Trader Joes! Great finds!

  5. Sounds good to me! What brand is the vanilla pea powder?

    • I use the Naturade pea protein and LOVE it. It doesn’t have any aftertaste at all, and it is dairy free and vegan. I order mine from Vitacost.com, but I have seen it at my local grocery store too. :)

  6. I love making smoothies and I make mine pretty similar to your recipe, thanks for sharing!! :)

    xo,
    Sincerely Miss Ash

  7. It looks great! Does the protein powder you use contain soy?

    • Nope! It is dairy and soy free and completely vegan and plant based. :) I LOVE it because it doesn’t have an aftertaste like so many protein powders often do. It is by Naturade by the way.

  8. want to try that chocolate covered bananas!
