breakfast of my (day) dreams

Posted Apr 13 2010 12:00am

I am in such a great mood this morning!! Was it the sleep? The run? The breakfast? All of the above?

I got plenty of sleep but set my alarm a little earlier than I normally would for a morning run because I’ve decided I am more motivated for a run when I have sat in bed and woken up for a while. So I padded downstairs to grab a snack and got right back into bed where I caught up on blogs, etc. and digested. Apparently this was perfect and I am keeping this routine :)

Kardea Nutrition Cranberry Almond bar

Holy cow. This is #3 of the 4 flavors Kardea Nutrition asked me to review. Oh. My. Gosh. I was not expecting this flavor, it was SO good. It tasted like the holidays!!! I can’t put my finger on exactly which dish it really reminded me of, but I think it is a pie? Obviously it wasn’t the texture of a pie, but that is fine by me. I still really, really like the rolled oats embedded in the soft, chewy bar it is perfect. In addition to the flavors, the ingredients and nutrition stats are still stellar. These bars are totally worth the shipping cost if you are interested. I’m saving the most interesting flavor for last, Chai Spice!!

The bar was also excellent fuel for my run with the protein and fiber it had! I felt amazing during my run! My legs were tight from spinning so I was definitely expecting it to be a slow run, so I pretty much ignored my Garmin and just ran based on how I felt, only checking distance every once in a while. I ended up doing 3.25 miles in just under 34 minutes, and my average pace was WAY faster than expected. I felt like I was so slow! Hmm…. I guess I’m getting faster?

All through my run I had my mind on one breakfast and one breakfast alone: an egg wrap.

Egg wrap (Flat Out multigrain and flax wrap, 1 egg + 1 egg white, red pepper flakes, zucchini, 1/4 cup reduced fat mozzarella, cooking spray); grapes

I actually had planned this with green pepper but when I got home, I changed it to zucchini because I LOVE zucchini in anything. This was amazing and exactly what I wanted :)

Off to shower and head to work. No word yet on babysitting… if he has strep throat, I might not want to get near him…
