Boston Day 3: Bread Lovers Only

Posted Jun 04 2011 8:40am

*If you missed the rest of the trip, check out Day 1 and Day 2 *

Monday morning, our last day in Boston, began almost identical to Sunday morning. I hit the gym for a 45-minute cardio workout followed by a shower and breakfast. We walked over to Au Bon Pain and both got their new Egg Whites & Cheddar on a Skinny Bagel. This was delicious and surprisingly filling- plus only 250 calories- bonus! Thus starting my bread addiction for the day ;) Sorry I forgot to take a picture, but I left my camera in the room when we walked over.

That afternoon our plan was to go on the Duck Tour before leaving the city. We weren’t sure we would like the Duck Tour since we have seen so much of Boston, but decided to go for it. I was especially excited that the “Duck” goes in the water!

We boarded our big red duck, AKA the “Top of the Pru” and hit the road.

We saw some pretty cool sights along the way and surprisingly learned a lot of Boston history.

Into the Charles River we went…!

I gotta say, if I’m being honest, this part was pretty cool….for about 15 minutes. But then to me it just got too long. I felt like we were in the water forever. I liked the tour much better when driving around on land and seeing the sights.

All in all an ok experience- I’m glad we did it because it seems to be such a tourist staple of Boston, and now it’s out of the way!

After the Duck Tour we ate at a restaurant called Stephanie’s on Newbury.

This place had been recommended to me by several people so I figured we’d give it a shot. The outdoor section was packed so we ended up eating indoors.

I had looked at the menu beforehand, but must have looked at a dinner menu because the lunch menu did not impress me. I had such a hard time figuring out what I would like or could eat that I almost didn’t order anything. The only thing that sounded appealing to me was the grilled cheese, but I had just eaten grilled cheese from the food truck the day before! There was also a turkey wrap, but after the experience at Tia’s I declined that option too. I ended up ordering french toast…not knowing this monstrosity was going to come out!

Whoa! I ate a litte less than half and then let everyone else attack it! It was really good with a raspberry filling, but so overwhelming!

After lunch we hit the road to come home :(

Our trip had come to an end, but what a trip it was- I’d be coming home a newly engaged gal!
