On Sunday morning I woke up early to go to the hotel gym. There gym was well equipped with treadmills, ellipticals, and bikes- however there was absolutely no free weights, mats or machines- strictly cardio. I did a 45 cardio workout then showered to get ready for the day.
Our hotel had a Starbucks so I started the day off with their Perfect Oatmeal. This came with the mix-ins shown below: brown sugar, nuts, and dried fruit. I put half of each package in and mixed it up- yummy and fulfilling breakfast.
After breakfast we headed over to Quincy Market/Faneuil Hall to meet up with friends and do a little shopping.
This place always has some sort of live entertainment, very similar to South Street Seaport in NYC. We watched a show where a guy basically tied himself up in ropes and was hung upside down only to break free and get down all on his own- pretty cool!
Afterwards, Pete and I headed over to the SoWa Open Market . This place was AWESOME! We had read about it beforehand and learned that it has a farmer’s market section, food trucks, a vintage market, and craft market- sounded right up our alley and it was. We were starving by the time we got there and headed immediately for the food trucks. Pete got massive hot dogs and I found something awesome…a grilled cheese truck!
They had many grilled cheese options with surprisingly healthy ingredients, such as organic wheat bread. I ordered the “Boston Common” which was grilled cheddar on organic bread.
I wish I had a shot of the hot dogs Pete was eating because they were insane!
After eating we walked around all sections of the market and really enjoyed the sights, people, and items.
We left the market soon after and went to the Prudentital Center to do the Skywalk. Basically the Prudential Center is a skyscraper where you can go to the top floor, which is an observatory, and see the awesome views of Boston from the windows on all four sides. This was cool and we got some neat pictures, but it was not what I expected and we did not think it was worth the money. Honestly, it was only $13 a person but to me just to walk around and look out a window was not exactly worth it when we had pretty great views from our hotel room! At least we got some fun pictures!
Continuing on our trek of covering ground and seeing as many places as possible, we hopped on a T (subway) and headed over to Cambridge.
The first stop we went to Kendall Square, which is right by MIT. There wasn’t much to see here in my opinion except some pretty neat architecture and campus grounds. So we hopped back on the T to Harvard Square which was more lively. We walked around the square and through the Harvard Campus taking some pictures.
The highlight of the day/night for me was where we went for dinner. I had read about a restaurant called Rustic Kitchen on Tina’s blog . She had also recommended Piattini as a place to eat when we went last year, and thus sparked the name of my blog! Pete and I previewed the menu beforehand and knew it was a place we would love. The food was so amazing that I am going to do a restaurant review post on it very soon!
I played the “engagement card” and had the waitress snap a cute pic of the newly engaged couple
That evening we met back up with friends to go to Jillians - an arcade, bowling alley, and bar all in one similar in some ways to a Dave and Busters. Pete and I played two games of pool where shockingly I won one of the games!
The five of us also played a game of bowling with the coolest bowling shoes ever- Pumas! I wanted to take these home!
Fun night with friends! Although my bowling score was a whopping 20!!!
This may be the reason why…
Hehe see you soon with a recap of our last day!
