I had an enjoyable weekend and will share it with you a bit later, but for now I want to tell you about an opportunity to both help those in need and get your running onPerhaps you are thinking about adding a Half to your race schedule, or adding a training run for a marathon… or just feel like running for 2 or so hours?!
A few days ago I was contacted by the representatives of this opportunity and asked to help spread the word on the cause, how could I say no? Couldn’t!
In just a few weeks time on September 16th, the Allstate Life Insurance Boston 13.1 Marathon is occurring, and during this time, an exceptional program is taking place! This program, which will benefit homeless men, women, and children within the city, is an issue I feel needs more attention and I am glad to be helping out in anyway I can.
Allstate and non-profit Give Your Sole have teamed up for a shoe donation campaign to collect moderately used athletic shoes around Allstate Life Insurance 13.1 Marathon Series races. All together this year, they will be collecting shoes at five different races and hope to continue this pace next year as well!
All shoes collected in Boston will be donated to Boston Rescue Mission , an organization that helps homeless and poor of Greater Boston achieve self-sufficiency by assisting women and men in confronting and overcoming the root causes of their homelessness. All shoes collected in Boston will benefit the Boston Rescue Mission, an organization aiding the homeless and poor men and women of Greater Boston for more than 100 years.
There are three different times and areas race participants and spectators can make donations:
During packet pick-up at Fast: Splits Multisport on Friday, September 14
Karhu and Craft North American headquarters on Saturday, September 15.
And Race Day: Boston 13.1 Marathon on Sunday, September 16–>Runners who donate their shoes on race day will receive a free pair of flip-flops to wear home, not to worry about lack of shoes
Allstate Life Insurance kindly offered to give away TWO coupon codes for free entry into the Allstate Life Insurance 13.1 Marathon! I was offered one of these free entries and I actually died a bit inside when I realized there was no way in H-E-double hockey sticks that I could run this race… I can’t help but think, oh how the mighty have fallen. Not that I was a “mighty” runner, but yeah, I can barely run 2 miles at this point… sigh.
Doh, this is not about me right now, and two runners CAN run this for FREE (weeee)! All you have to do to enter is leave a comment telling your most important goal or something you would like to accomplish before the end of 2012. I though that would be a motivational thing to think about
I will pick a winner by Thursday morning! Good luck to those who enter!
