Publisher Angela Hoy, a pioneer in ebook publishing, has posted a comparison of prices for the low-end packages of major POD publishers on the site of her popular email magazine, WritersWeekly.com. The services offered by BookLocker.com, which is owned and operated by Hoy and her husband, Richard, are the least expensive on the list.
Angela started WritersWeekly.com in 1997 and shortly afterward started publishing her own ebooks. After marrying Richard in 1999, the two bought BookLocker.com, one of the first online sellers of ebooks. The next year they started offering POD services, and now publish more than 1000 authors.
BookLocker is a full-service publishing company. Potential authors must submit books for review. BookLocker’s price is $492, which also includes graphics, formatting and cover design. Deduct $175 if submitting your own cover. Returning authors are only charged $99 in setup fees on all subsequent books. Books are usually on the market in less than a month. Authors receive 35% royalties based on list price for public sales and 15% royalties based on list price for wholesale/bookstore orders.
