Stretching must be a mandatory part of every workout. As the result of any exercise, muscles tighten and shorten. Stretching will help maximize your range of motion. Whether you are working out with weights, using a resistance band, or just using the resistance of your own body, you should stretch each muscle group directly after performing each set while you are doing this strength training. Even a simple warm-up walk while moving your arms in a circular motion will do the trick. However, it is important to remember not to stretch beyond the point where you begin to feel tightness in the muscle. Also, do not push through muscle resistance and never stretch to the point of discomfort or pain. Be sure to incorporate stretching into your regular workout both before and after you’re done; before will help prepare the muscles and warm them up for your workout and after will help your muscles relax and cool down. This will help reduce your chances of getting injured, feeling sore and getting muscle cramps.
