Blogger Meet-Up with CaitPlusAte!

Posted Feb 05 2012 4:27pm

Last night was a blast! My friends Raquel, Melissa and I drove into Boston for a very special blogger meet-up with the wonderful Cait of CaitPlusAte . We arrived in town at about 6:30 and had plans to eat dinner at The Other Side , an amazing restaurant that prides itself in serving local, organic food. This was right up our allies! Unfortunately, when we arrived at the restaurant, we learned it was over capacity. Total bummer!

So, what did we do? We shopped.

Across the street was an Urban Outfitters and Forever 21, both of which we couldn’t resist. I wound up with a cute sweater and bracelet (see the Fashion page for details!), Raquel purchased a new coat and Cait got a couple of Audrey Hepburn-esque shirts. We were happy campers!

Dinner

It was absolutely freezing outside and we were not really in the mood to trek around, so we walked across the street to Mass Ave Tavern . In typical wining and dining fashion, we ordered a round of cocktails. I opted for my usual, a glass of merlot.

Come to Mama!

While we perused the menu, we chatted about all of the essential things in life: love, boys, clothes and…love, boys and clothes. ;-) Cait is just as wonderful in person as she is on her blog. I felt like I was talking to a friend I had known for years! After some deliberation, we decided on the hummus platter, which came with fresh veggies and homemade pita chips.

The pita chips were homemade and delicious but the hummus was not! The second I tasted the hummus, I knew it was Tribe brand. Thumbs down from this chica! There is nothing like homemade hummus. Maybe I’m a tad obsessed with the delightful spread and need to chill out? Meh. Either way, I was a tad disappointed. The four of us chatted the night away and I munched on an unpictured garden salad. The vegan-friendly options are always slim at taverns but the stellar company outweighed any food-related qualms.

After dinner, we said our goodbyes to Cait, complete with lots of hugs and hand-tugs. Cait lives much farther from Boston than we do and she had an early morning wake-up call! Overall, the evening was pretty much perfect. Girlfriends, wine and heart-to-heart chats…what could be better, I ask?

The night was still young so Raquel, Melissa and I headed back towards our hometown area and hit up a local bar. More fun ensued, complete with a dance-off between our friend’s boyfriend and some random guy. I wish we had gotten that on tape! It was pretty fantastic.

Breakfast

Sundays are a rest day for me and, given the fact that I went to bed past 10:00 p.m. last night (I’m a Grandma, it’s fine), I was happy to lay in bed in lieu of a workout. After ten minutes of wiping my sleepy eyes, I got up and made myself a curry tofu scramble.

This was so delicious! I used my Smoky Tofu Scramble recipe and simply subbed curry powder for the cumin & mesquite. Winner! After a late night glass of wine, greens were absolutely a necessity first thing this morning. I told you I’m a Grandma. Served with 1/2 a grapefruit and a cup of coffee, I was warm, toasty and totally satisfied.

Daily Musings

Today, my mom and I went to mass to celebrate her cousin’s 50th year as an ordained priest. Crazy, huh? We had a nice mother-daughter day. On the way, I ate some unpictured baby carrots with spicy mesquite hummus (please make this!) and a leftover whole grain baguette from Panera.

Now, I’m off the tackle the never-ending amount of homework that awaits me! If you’re watching the SuperBowl, I hope you’re rooting for the Patriots! If you’re not, it’s okay – I’m not really that big of a football fan but being from New England, I have to support my home team! I’ll be watching it on mute while learning about cardiac-related nutrition therapy techniques!

Stay lovely,
Heather

P.S. – The Fashion page was updated (again!) today.  Please don’t make fun of my wannabe-model pose. ;-)
