I've found I'm a bit of a fickle exerciser. I get totally "into" running or cycling or something else and pledge to run, cycle, etc. until I'm performing the best at the chosen activity possible for a 5'4" moderately-athletic girl working full time; however, it doesn't take long for me to feel some kind of knee pain or to completely lose interest. To fight this, I've been throwing in a few swimming workouts. I'm not the best swimmer, but it's such a great way to workout. Here are a few benefits
Works almost all the muscles (if you do a variety of strokes)
Develops strength, cardiovascular fitness, and endurance
Great for cross-training
Enhances flexibility
Low impact and limited joint strain
Sometimes all it takes to get out of the workout funk is to try something new: zumba, kickboxing, rollerblading, swimming, hiking, bootcamps...what am I missing?!
