Believe in God. Trust the Process. Change Forever!

I am a huge fan of the show, The Biggest Loser. As I watch faithfully every week, the contestants endure the torture of running, lifting, swimming and other activities. As I watch, I feel myself wanting to do better in my own life. But what is the difference between the contestants and those of us at home?

For my birthday, I received the “The Biggest Loser Wii Game”. While exercising one night, I noticed a sign on the wall that stated: “Believe in Yourself. Trust the Process. Change Forever. -Bob”. I have watched the show for at least 3 years and I have never noticed or heard this saying before. Perhaps I was not at a point in my life to receive this saying.

The very truth of this saying hit me like a ton of bricks. First, I believe in God and he believes in me, but I must trust the process that God takes me through. Our lives are about going through various processes. Whether it’s a spiritual, emotional, financial or physical process, God takes us through each process or journey to get to the next level or to that place that he desires for us. We must learn to “trust the process” even when we don’t understand or agree with the process. Philippians 1:6(NIV) states “Being confident of this that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus”. Jesus wants to finish what he has started in us. I often find myself getting “stuck” in the process many times. I start off good, then some where in the middle, doubt sits in or I am not seeing the results that I want and I began to slack or stop all together.

We all want change, but how do we “Change Forever”. My sister was pouring her heart out to me the other day in regards to trying to get women, especially black women to change their lives. I really felt her heart beat on this subject. So, I asked the Lord, why is it that people don’t Change Forever?. The Lord put in my spirit that “You are trying to change a person’s culture!” I didn’t understand this at first, so I kept praying, and then I thought about culture. What is culture? One of the definitions of culture is - the set of shared attitudes, values, goals, beliefs and practices that characterizes an institution or organization. In other words, we are attempting to change one's beliefs! We are trying to change what a person has been taught from a child. Everyone in their neighborhood did it, their family members did it, so why should they change? It is hard to change a person’s belief system. However, changing what you believe is crucial to “Changing Forever”. If you change what you believe, you change your behavior; if your behavior change; you change forever!

So if you are like me and tired of being on a financial, physical and emotional merry-go-round, CHANGE WHAT YOU BELIEVE!! We have to believe that eating healthy is not expensive, nasty or too much trouble to cook. We must believe and know that walking 3 times a week, will not “sweat-out” our perms, we will not get mugged and it doesn’t take 3 hours to walk a mile! We must believe and help others to believe that it is okay to take out time for yourself, to read, to pray, to fast, to express to others how you feel in order to stay emotionally healthy.

This is just a start, let’s “can” the myths and start believing in God, because God believes in us! Trust the process, don’t be afraid of pain (physical or emotional), and let’s change forever!
