Before and After: Dining Room Makeover – the Perfect Foodie Pic Set Up

Ashley and I had one thing to conquer this weekend – dining room makeover. Actually, we had to furnish it, too.

We were kind of tired of eating off the coffee table.

First store on agenda, IKEA.

Breakfast

But first morning ritual…

Breakfast.

The morning started with 2 slices of wheat toast slathered with Earth Balance Coconut & Peanut Spread and Starbuck’s Breakfast Blend in a French Press.

Did I mention I had to ‘toast’ my bread over the stove top because I have yet to get a toaster. I am sure the broiler would have worked, but I was too lazy.

And for those of you drooling wondering where you can get your own jar of Earth Balance coconut & peanut spread, they do have a store finder .

{Cue: Christine saves the DAY!}

IKEA

IKEA Covina

There mass maze system is brilliant. Can make you fill up your shopping cart fast.

Tip: be firm with list in hand.

But I do love this bar system. Am going to do this above my kitchen.

Almost caved in and hoarded it all…

but my mission for the day was the dining room. Firm.

IKEA lighting

And they always have cool lighting fixtures. My mind wondered, as my new place doesn’t come with ceiling lights.

And I hate crowding my floor space.

And I pondered… leaving my mind to wonder, but my cart remained empty.

Look, we almost are at the end of the rat maze. Love the plants.

IKEA is so color friendly. And budget friendly too.

You don’t know it yet, but I already found my dining room table within this wonderment.

Checkout. Stayed within budget.

First Attempt:

Got the black pedestal table I wanted. Put it together.

Oh, I forgot… struggled to haul it from the car to the house. LOL.

That was funny to watch, I am sure.

Put up my former New Orleans Jazz Cafe styled accessories.

Got up next morning and realized the pieces were just to heavy now that my abode went from house to apartment. And I wanted a vibrant vibe now. Bohemian, Artsy, Relaxed Feeling. Fun.

After:

apartment dining room makeover

Mind you. On Sunday. I went on mission ‘dining room accessories’. This was no easy feat!

Home Goods, twice. Cost Plus, twice. IKEA, again.

Trying to find the perfect dining room accessories I had envisioned in my mind.

Not finding them.

Finding some of them.

Re-mixing it to make it work.

But I did it.

Still contemplating accenting the dining room wall. Maybe in the blue of the butterfly or the rosie hints within the picture.

And it can still use a rug, but this works for now.

Lunch

Lunch

A girl can get quite famished with all this shopping. Came home. Decorated. Ate this awesome sandwich:

- wheat
- hummus
- provolone
- purple onion
- tomato
- sprouts
- dijon mustard

Then realized from the picture above, I have the perfect colorful foodie picture taking table. 4 different color placemats + colorful cloth napkins bringing in tons of color.

Dinner

flame broiler

See? Even ka-pows the color of my Flame Broiler Chicken Bowl (+veggies + brown rice, no sauce) and watermelon.

Ever take on a giant feat just to decorate a tiny area of your house? Any idea how I can update the retro 70s cupboards without destroying them??
