I am having a really hard time believing the newspeople when they continue reporting this week that this winter has been the fourth warmest winter on the record books globally. Here in Chicago we are bringing that average DOWN! I already don't love the treadmill but this winter is really damaging our already shaky relationship. I talk about mixing it up a lot to avoid boredom and keep your body guessing but one of the most important reasons to mix it up on a treadmill is to prevent injury. Treadmill running shortens your gait and if you run the same distance without an incline repetitively you are using the same muscles in the same motion. Adding intervals at different speeds and inclines helps to engage your muscles in a different way aiding in avoiding overuse injuries.
Today's workout incorporates both speed work and incline walking. I have included recommended speeds but make sure to change them to fit your body's abilities.
What is your favorite way to beat winter workout boredom?
