bASKETBALL cONDITIONING wORKOUT

Today is CROSS-TRAINING DAY. If you remember from a previous post of mine, I decided on doing some ‘SPORT SPECIFIC CONDITIONING’ cross-training. Today was BASKETBALL!! Here’s what I did (repeated 5 times)

Here’s how to do them-

–> LINE JUMPS:

  • DSC07770 Forward-to-backward: Stand with both feet behind a line, (facing the line). Explosively & quickly jump backwards & forward over the line. Go by time or jumps. (I went by jumps, 8)
  • Side-to-Side: Same as Forward-to-Backward, only this time stand with both feet on the side on the line. Jump over to one side to side over the time. Go by time or jumps. (I went by jumps, 8)

DSC07772 DSC07767 –> BASKETBALL PLYO PUSH-UPS: Start in a push-up position with the basketball (in my case a volleyball) straddled between your hands. Lower to half a push-up & explode up, both hands off the floor & catch yourself on the ball. Toss yourself off & lower to starting position. Repeat. (these are HARD)

DSC07773 –> LEG LIFTS: lay on ground, hands under your head (or butt). Lift feet about 6” off the floor, hold for 20 seconds. (repeat desired amount of times)

–> TUCK JUMPS: Jump as high as you can (tucking your knees to your chest).

–> SUICIDE: (this is suppose to be done on a basketball court, I faked it!) Start at the baseline, run to the foul line – baseline – half court – baseline – other foul line – baseline – other baseline & back. (basically I split my yard into quarters & ran it)

 

The plyo push-ups are a killer & the suicides suck...just like being back in HS practicing. But it was a pretty good workout. Probably could have done some more line jumps, but maybe my calves will be sore tomorrow anyway...we’ll see.

I was going to actually play some basketball, but life happened so I didn’t, bummer. And besides that, I don’t even have a basketball (yet), double bummer!
