As you all know, I’m embarking on a 30 to 30 challenge to end my 20′s with a bang…and I wanted to share the fun with you all. I have gathered up some of my favorite products and have set up some great giveaways for each week of this month. This week, I’m featuring ZICO coconut water!
A few weeks ago, I was contacted by an awesome lady representing ZICO, asking if I’d like to try it out. I have become a coconut water addict, but I had never tried ZICO before. So you know I had to. By the time I got back from Chicago, there was an awesome package sitting here on my table (thanks, Mom!) waiting for me to open.
Inside an awesome insulated bag were three 11.2-oz. cartons of unflavored, natural coconut water and one 1-liter carton of…
Chocolate coconut water!?!?!
Love at first sip, y’all. Love. at. first. sip.
I was hesitant. I won’t lie. I have to have my plain coconut water in smoothies, unless it’s Harmless Harvest, and I am very up and down about flavored coconut waters. Some days I’m in love with mango, others I am not. (Side note: I’m not a fan of flavors other than mango…until now.) I took the first sip of the chocolate preparing for bitterness. I was pleasantly surprised. It was just sweet enough to taste like it’s been flavored with chocolate…but not so sweet it completely contradicts the light, healthy flavor of the water.
My immediate thought was “smoothie time!!” That’s when I shared the super easy Chocolate Banana. I made three of those this week. Today, I share with you…
Hydrating Summer Fruit Smoothie
2 C. mixture of mango, strawberries, red plums, & watermelon (use as much or as little of each fruit as you want)
1/2 C. ice
1 1/2 C. ZICO natural coconut water
Blend. (I love the simplicity of smoothies. Tee hee.)
Now that you’ve heard about the tastiness…just some quick notes on the benefits of coconut water:
Electrolytes, electrolytes, electrolytes. You need them. Sodium, magnesium, calcium, potassium, phosphorus – they’re all in ZICO. Electrolyte balance is required by the body in order for it to regulate hydration and blood pH levels. Muscle and nerve function depends on this electrolytic balance, and coconut provides naturally occurring electrolytes – better for you than artificially flavored sports drinks.
Sports drinks can harm your teeth, and are full of unnecessary sugar. Sugar. Higher acidity. Coconut water sits at a pH level of 5, which is closer to the neutral level of 7…most sports drinks come in around 3 (more acidic). Less sugar + less acidic = happier teeth. (And happier body.)
High levels of potassium. Ever had what’s called a Charley Horse? (A severe muscle cramp – or, technically an uncontrolled muscle contraction.) Well, it may have something to do with your potassium levels. If you’re deficient in potassium, controlled muscle contractions can occur and it can potentially be fatal (effecting major muscles in the body, such as the heart). Potassium is also crucial to the balance of fluid and electrolytes. Coconut water contains about the same amount of potassium as a banana. (You need roughly 4,000 mg of potassium a day. ZICO’s 11.2-oz. carton (single serving) contains 20%DV…690 mg.)
Here’s a cool thing I learned…coconut water has been used for intravenous hydration when saline was not available. How wild is that?
Luckily, ZICO has offered up some coconut water for you to have. Enter below for your chance to win. The giveaway starts today and ends on August 10th at 12:01am EST. Here’s a little extra something for you…this month is all about challenging my body to embrace change, to strengthen, and to stretch…and 22 of you linked up on Monday in the Weekly Chase. The Weekly Chase is all about setting smaller, achievable goals on a weekly basis and supporting others in their efforts to do the same. Because I know just how crazy busy it can get trying to keep up and check those goals off and pump each other up (this move into the new house is killing my blog reading!)…those of you who linked up get 5 extra chances to win the giveaway. (It’ll be the same way next week with that giveaway. Get your goals ready and link up on Monday!!) Be sure to add your link so it counts!
