Attempting a no spend month

My gf and I initially found the idea from this blog.

Goal: We plan to follow the same rules of only spending $250 for the whole month of September (luckily our $250 is split between just 2 people).

The following will be included in the $250 budget.

  • Food
  • Alcohol
  • Gas
  • Entertainment
  • Household items

The following necessities will not count in the $250 budget.

  • Rent
  • Cell phone bill
  • Electricity/Cable
  • Savings
  • Medical bills
  • Insurance
  • Race entrance fees (I know it shouldn’t be here)

Expectations: The month should make us aware of things we waste money on while enabling us to live by simple means. The experiment should help us consume less alcohol and meat, forcing us to eat more vegetables and fruits. Eating out and excessive driving will be a big no no. We will have to commute using bicycles.

In the end this will be a difficult goal, especially with football season under way, but it has enormous benefits in health and finances.
