A few months ago I was sent two products to review from Aromatherapy Associates , a company specialising in essential oils. I received The Essential Travel Oil set and the Revitalizing Face Oil.
Here's a little bit about the Aromatherapy Associates brand "We have been sharing the therapeutic benefits of essential oils for over 30 years. Starting out as therapists in the early 1970s, we were privileged to be involved in the emerging practice of aromatherapy. We experienced first hand the fantastic positive effects of essential oils on the physical, mental and emotional wellbeing of our clients. It was clear to us then that aromatherapy could produce powerful results and we’ve maintained a strong commitment to its traditional principles ever since.
We started our business with the aim of bringing the benefits of essential oils to as many people as possible. To this day we continue to use our extensive knowledge and experience to develop skin, bath and bodycare that transforms a daily routine into something luxurious and deeply beneficial.
As we aspire to be the most respected partner for hotels and spas worldwide, we maintain a long-standing commitment to the absolute quality of our products, treatments, training and service. This is how we ensure the relationship we build with you is a lasting one.
We look forward to sharing our rich store of knowledge with you while continuing to develop new ideas and treatments to evolve and enrich the practice of aromatherapy further, bringing its benefits to many more people around the world."
First up - the travel oil kit
"We’ve chosen the four blends we can’t live without and put them together in this travel box so that you can create an aromatherapy experience to suit every need, wherever you are.
Start the day with an invigorating pick-me-up, lift your spirits for a night out, support your natural defence system, or dissolve stress and tension as you wind down for a restful night's sleep.
Natural oils - pure nature with nothing else added.
Each 7.5ml bottle of Deep Relax, Revive Morning, Revive Evening and Support Lavender & Peppermint Bath & Shower Oil contains up to 3 unique bath or shower experiences.
Directions: Add 2 capfuls to full bath or massage over your torso before showering."
I'm not normally an essential oil type person - for me, shower gels and body lotions are key to my daily routine, but oils always seem a bit of an unnecessary extra that I never normally think about. I was looking forward to trying these though.
The set comprises of 4 mini bottles of oils that can be used in bath water or applied directly to the skin before showering.
Deep Relax: As the name suggests this has a very deep strong scent with spice and herbal notes and feels very warming and relaxing. Like all the oils, when poured into bath water it filled the whole bathroom with a gorgeous fragrance. The scent also turned slightly chocolaty when applied directly to the skin which was lovely. This scent would be ideal for bathtime before bed.
Revive Morning: This has a very refreshing uplifting scent and is great applied to the skin before showing in the morning as even just breathing in the fragrance give me a lift. The scent reminds me of Albos Oil - a string herbal fragrance a little of which remained on the skin after showering, and it made the bathroom smell lovely for hours!
Revive Evening: As this is a travel set, I think this oil would be great for use in the shower before going out for your evening meal whilst on your hols. It's spicy with a strong, almost masculine herbal scent with a citrus undertone. The fragrance was strongest applied directly to the skin but was lighter and fresher when used in bathwater.
Support Lavender: This has a lovely fragrance of fresh lavender that doesn't smell synthetic at all. It is quite uplifting when used in the shower and relaxing when used in the bath. The lavender scent remained on the skin even after showering and applying body lotion which I was quite impressed with.
I really like this little set actually, especially as each fragrance is so different and they all have a different use. I don't know whether oils such as this would ever become part of my normal regime but they do brighten up my daily shower or bath and add a bit of luxury to my everyday routine. As they are designed for travel I'll be taking them away on my next trip, they'd also make a nice little gift for somebody.
Essential skincare with rose, frankincense and borage

Frankincense has been prized for centuries for its tightening, rejuvenating effects,

This is a treatment to soften and smooth the skin, whilst improving radiance.
Directions: Use morning and night after cleansing and toning, massage one to two pumps over face and neck using fingertips. Apply after serum and before moisturiser."
Unlike the box for the mini travel oils which I thought looked pretty good - I found the box for this to look a bit cheap, although I do like how the actual product comes in a glass bottle rather than a plastic one.
The smell of the oil is lovely, a really gorgeous strong herbal scent. I don't mind strong smelling facial products but can see how it may put others off.
The directions recommend using this in conjunction with a moisturiser but as my skin is on the oily side I found that would be too much so have just used it alone. I applied a few pumps to my face and neck, and it really made a difference to my neck especially where the skin is a little drier than that of my face. It felt very comfortable on the skin but left my skin feeling pretty oily. Because of that, I stopped using it as a day treatment and have been using it before bed instead as it left my skin feeling too shiny.
It is a nice product though and I have noticed my skin is feeling softer and definitely more moisturised. But for me, it isn't an all round product as I can't really use it in the morning as it leaves me skin too oily. For those with drier skins it might work better as a day treatment.
