Are you using gasloine products on YOUR skin?

Dr. Joseph Russo is a Board Certified, Harvard trained Plastic Surgeon who has been in private practice in Newton Centre since 1991.   He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (F.A.C.S.) and a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (A.S.P.S.). The term mineral oil doesn’t sound that sinister when you say it, but according to one doctor, it is the worst ingredient in the current crop of anti-aging creams on the market.“Mineral oil is essentially a petroleum product, as in, what they make gasoline out of,” said Dr. Joseph Russo, a Harvard-trained board-certified plastic surgeon who has been in practice nearly 20 years. “For instance, petrolatum is a major ingredient in everything from lip balms to hand lotions and many anti-aging creams on the market. Manufacturers use it because it is an inexpensive spreadability agent, so it makes the cream cover your skin very smoothly. However, the problems it causes are many. It will clog your pores. It doesn’t allow the skin to ‘breathe,’ meaning it prevents oxygen flow. Your body’s natural oils can’t break through the barrier it presents, and it suffocates your skin, actually promoting the formation of wrinkles. With all the natural ingredients that produce the same spreadability benefit, the obvious question is why do they use it? The answer: it’s cheap.” There’s a great deal of information on this at www.betterskintoday.com, as well as some great skincare tips and a list of products that do not contain any of these harmful ingredients.Dr. Russo believes that people looking to stem the tide of skin aging should look for different products that feature natural ingredients and avoid all the harmful effects of mineral oils, petroleum products and other harmful unnatural ingredients.
