Are You Feeling Frustrated About Your Weight???

Posted Dec 20 2011 10:14pm
Around this time of year, it’s easy to get side tracked and distracted by all the goodies around you. Cookies at work, egg nog at parties, peppermint mochas at coffee shops and yummy chips and dips. I have heard from a number of my clients how frustrated they are by falling off the “wagon” (been there), overeating (done that) and not seeing the results they have worked so hard for. I emailed one client with this little motivational montage and she said it was helpful to hear. I hope you feel the same:

I hear your frustration and totally understand.
It is hard. If it was easy, everyone would do it.
As for a middle ground, yes, there is.
Remember the mindset “It’s not that I CAN’T have it, it’s that I don’t WANT it”. This will save you time and time again from overdoing it on holiday fare. Paleo is not for everyone. But if you have food allergies, you need to steer clear of those for the rest of your life. That part is just acceptance. -Try to stick to the one sweet per day idea. After you have one slice of pie or one cookie, that’s it. That part is doable and will save you big time. -Remember the plate method: 1/2 plate greens, 1/4 meat, 1/4 fruit or grain. -Use a salad plate in stead of a full size plat and don’t go back for seconds. -Make sure you are still getting your water in.   Honestly, a lot of it is practice and patience. You have to retrain your body what to eat. I always tell people that I eat as much of whatever I want. They are usually shocked and ask how. It’s because I have trained my body to want things that make me feel good and perform well. I WANT fruits, veggies, meat, fats. I don’t want sugar, simple carbs and alcohol. This does not happen overnight. You must make it a lifestyle change, not a diet.  I also try to remember that nothing tastes as good as being fit feels. It has helped me turn down temptation and stay strong.  It’s not impossible and what you seek is within your range of ability. Will it take time? Yes. Will it be hard sometimes? Yes. Will it get easier? YES! Remember, 80% of results come from nutrition. So, eating poorly or off plan and then trying to make up for it in the gym will not work. You can do this. You are capable of achieving the goals you have set. Give up on what the world says you should have and gravitate toward what your body needs.
