Anytime Fitness Conference. [Washington D.C.]

Posted Oct 02 2011 6:49pm
I'm home, I'm home, and ready to blog! Not going to lie, I wish I could have spent a few more days in DC. I feel like I zoomed through all of the touristy sights and missed out on some much needed museum time. I am going to try and tell you about my weekend in a semi-organized/confusing manor.

As you know, I was a guest VIP at the Anytime Fitness Annual Conference. Each year the conference brings together franchise owners, vendors, corporate staff, etc. This year, they invited (all expenses paid!!) a few lucky members who are active on Anytime Health , like myself :) My little pod of amazingness didn't have to participate in 100% of the conference. We attended the key note speakers and nightly events, but other than that we were pretty much free to explore DC during the day!

Friday... On Friday, I met up with an old friend of mine, Nikki. She transfered jobs from the U of M to George Washington University. It was so great to catch up her and be with someone who knew their way around!
Dupont Circle Dupont Circle is a nice little check point. If you looked on a map, you would see that it resemble a bike tire: a circle (the fountain) with spokes (streets) coming out of it. From Dupont Circle, we headed towards the Potomac River, Georgetown, and Foggy Bottom (George Washington Campus!).

Sweet Green 's Frozen Yogurt
DC is swarming with two things: cupcake shops and frozen yogurt places! I definitely made a pit stop for some Frozen Yogurt. I got original Stonyfield Tart with an assortment of berries! Hit the spot.

Potomac River
As you can see, Friday was extremely gloomy, but luckily it didn't rain on us. Anyways, I am sitting on a pier along the POtomac River. Behind me is a bunch of adorable restaurants and cafes. Nikki explained to me that they had so much rain last year, the river flooded onto the pier and ruined local businesses.

Georgetown So this isn't the best picture of Georgetown. It actually does not do it justice at all. This was taken in an ally way/bridge, overlooking a creek. I may have forgotten to take pictures of the actual streets of Georgetown. Anyways, in my opinion, GT is the epitome of up and coming. There are adorable shops, fashion boutiques, cupcakeries, bakeries, etc. EVERYWHERE!

Nikki!
After my little day excursion with Nikki, I came back to the hotel for a quick nap. On the schedule for Friday night was a BBQ on the hotel's back terrace. There was lots of food, music, alcohol, and tattooing.

The above picture is of Corey and I. Corey is also one of the Anytime Health VIPS and is probably one of the most down to earth, genuine people I have ever met. He's lost a total of 100 lb. (and counting!) and is a COMPLETE inspiration to me and I am so glad I met him! Check out his blog here .

Bloggies, I want you to meet Amanda ^^. She is my Anytime Health contact, and the reason why my weekend was flawless. Amanda was my wing woman this weekend :)
Moving on to Friday's feast. There were over 800 people at this conference, so they had to feed a LOT of people! There were multiple buffets with an assortment of meats, potato salad, salad, etc. There was also a hefty dessert bar.

Saturday was our big sight seeing day. Sadly, it rained most of the day so we spent most of the time on our tour bus. We did end up braving the weather for a few photos though :)
Capitol Building

Lincoln Memorial

Vietnam Veterans Memorial

I don't normally hate on tour guides, but ours was blander than a saltine. She had absolutely no sense of humor and was just...boring. I did learn a lot though.

Rewinding a little bit. Before our full day of touring, Amanda, Tara, and I took the metro to Dupont Circle for some grub. I suggested going back to Sweet Green, because their salad selection looked PHENOMENAL. I got the build your own salad. If I can remember correctly: greens with chicken, garbanzo beans, tomatoes, grapes, dried cranberries, and balsamic vinegar dressing.

I had to take a picture of this because I thought their composting efforts were amazing. The sign reads: "everything from Sweet Green (utensils, bowls, cups, napkins, food)."
The final night at the conference was the Inaugural Ball. Fun fact: the hotel we were staying at is actually the original venue for the first presidential inaugural balls! This was essentially the closing ceremony of the conference. Awards were given and success stories (MY FAVORITE) were told.
The success stories made me tear up and get all emotional. 4 different people were highlighted for their health journeys. There was a weight loss story, a disability store, a disordered eating story, and BETTY LOU.
A little bit about Betty Lou. Betty is a 71 year old woman who recently broke the world record for forearm planking. She held her plank for over 36 minutes. Umm, can you say bad ass?

I feel like this post should have been 4 times longer because there is still so much more I want to share, in relation to what I gained personally from this weekend. If I didn't have homework that needed to be submitted, I would keep writing! Thus, I shall save it for a later date.
In conclusion, I wanted to thank thank thank thank thankkkkk Anytime Fitness and Anytime Health for being so great this weekend! I had a fantastic time, met amazing people, and became overly inspired to live healthy. You guys are making a difference! THANKS AGAIN.
One more thing bloggies---> I have an OUTRAGEOUS giveaway coming up later in the week worth over 500 dollars. Any guesses?
