Antibiotic Overuse Could Threaten Medicine

Posted Nov 20 2009 10:04pm

antibiotic-pills-300x300 Overuse of antibiotics in Europe is building widespread resistance and threatening to halt vital medical treatments such as hip replacements, intensive care for premature babies and cancer therapies, health experts say.

Dominique Monnet of the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control’s (ECDC) scientific advice unit said the “whole span of modern medicine” is under threat because bugs are become resistant to antibiotics, rendering the drugs useless.

“If this wave of antibiotic resistance gets over us, we will not be able to do organ transplants, hip replacements, cancer chemotherapy, intensive care and neonatal care for premature babies,” he told reporters at a briefing.

Dr. Michael Wegmann's Thoughts:

Antibiotics may be the most over prescribed drug on the planet. Often doctors cave to the wishes of parents who "want something to help" their kids, but haven't a clue about the long term repercussions associated with antibiotic resistance. There is a pediatrician in my town who no longer prescribes antibiotics for ear infections. This demonstrates some doctors are starting to "get it'.

Unfortunately the baby boomer generation was the most exposed generation to the medicine of antibiotics. Antibiotics have been linked to an increase in Breast Cancer, MRSA, and Crohn's Disease.

Understanding the fundamentals of health allow us to see that the immune system is affected by the nerve system through the connections with the endocrine and the autonomic nervous system. Chiropractic care directly influences the function of the nerve system through improving the movement of the spinal bones that encase and protect the spinal cord, and communication from the nerve system to the immune system.

Stressful conditions lead to altered measures of immune function, and altered susceptibility to a variety of diseases. Many stimuli, which primarily act on the central nervous system, can profoundly alter immune responses. The two routes available to the central nervous system are neuro-endocrine channels and autonomic nerve channels.

Only 5% of babies born have genetics defects, the majority of us have a perfectly healthy genome and produce functional proteins, illness in this group can likely be attributed to the nature of the signal. There are three primary situations in which signals contribute to dysfunction and dis-ease.

The first is trauma. If you twist or mis-align your spine and physically impede the transmission of the nervous system’s signals, it may result in a distortion of the information being exchanged between the brain and the body’s cells, tissues, and organs.

The second is toxicity. Toxins and poisons in our system represent inappropriate chemistry that can distort the signal’s information on its path between the nervous system and the targeted cells and tissues. Altered signals, derived from either of these causes, can inhibit or modify normal behaviors and lead to the expression of dis-ease.

The third and most important influence of signals on the dis-ease process is thought, the action of the mind. Mind-related illnesses do not require that there be anything physically wrong with the body at the outset of the dis-ease. Health is predicated upon the nervous system’s ability to accurately perceive environmental information and selectively engage appropriate, life-sustaining behaviors. If a mind misinterprets environmental signals and generates an inappropriate response, survival is threatened because the body’s behaviors become out of sync with the environment. We may not think that a thought could be enough to undermine an entire system, but, in fact, mis-perceptions can be lethal.

To make a change in your health you most limit the damage caused by these three situations. The best place to start is a spinal check up to determine the relationship of you nervous system to your overall health. Second, limit your intake of processed foods, soda. These represent the largest caloric intake in the US. Third, learn about the power of your thoughts. If you knew have powerful your thoughts were, you would never think a bad thought.
