4 miles. An intense running workout.
Sometimes in the summer it is too hot to run outside, especially on my schedule that permits me to run midday most days. Today's run happened at 2pm after a rainstorm...super steamy! I try not to run on a treadmill when it is nice out but days that are too hot call for it. For me boredom sets in pretty fast on a treadmill so I am always looking for ways to make the time and distance go by faster.
With this workout you will push yourself to run faster for short intervals working up to a mile and back down. Run each distance as fast as you can. The rest/recovery between each distance is a quick paced walk or jog, your rest period will be half the time it took you to cover the previous distance. For example, for a half mile run you completed in 4:30, your recovery jog/walk will be 2:15. Before beginning the run, warm-up jogging for a half mile to a mile at a comfortable pace and when completed walk until you feel your heart rate has returned to rest, and don't forget to stretch!
