Akin Body Care Orange Blossom Body Wash and Alva Naturkosmetik Foot Care Anti-Callous Balm

Hello all, and welcome to my latest product review from My Pure! This time I went for a shower gel, and something a bit different - an anti-callous balm.
First up, Akin Body Care Orange Blossom Body Wash I've ordered Akin products before from My Pure, with various degrees of success. Some products I've quite liked, and others I've hated! (the shampoo I tried being one!)
Here is a bit of info about the Akin brand "[A'kin] natural body care is made from the finest natural ingredients, chosen for their purity and skin friendly compatibility. [A'kin] does not contain: sulfates, ethoxylates, parabens, propylene glycol, petrochemical cleansers, silicones, phthalates, mineral oils, DEA and artificial colours.
All [A'kin] products are ingredient-rich, vegan, and use certified organic ingredients where possible, they have been formulated without animal ingredients or animal testing.
[Akin] products are certified vegan by the Australian Vegan Society. They are also halal certified."
I was looking for a shower gel, something zesty and a bit summery to help get me through January - so I went for the Orange Blossom "A'kin Aromatherapy Orange Blossom Body Wash - The fresh delicate, sweet essence of Orange Blossoms are prized for brightening the spirit and calming the skin. It's light citrus floral fragrance combined with the gentlest and purest botanical cleansers ensures your skin and mind will be refreshed."
My first impressions - the scent wasn't what I had hoped. I was looking for something very fresh and sweet smelling (and a bit girly to be honest) but this smelt very herbal and spicy and was boarding on masculine or unisex (which makes sense I guess, they want to appeal to as many people as possible)
The product lathered really well, and I didn't need to use a lot. I didn't leave my skin any noticeably softer or smoother but certainly didn't irritate it or dry it out. Sadly, I really did miss that sweet orange scent I'd hoped for :(
This can be bought from My Pure for £9.49 for 225ml. It is a generous sized bottle and I think it's a fair price for a natural product.
And my second My Pure product this month was the Alva Naturkosmetik Foot Care Anti-Callous Balm I was really looking forward to trying this - it can be used anywhere on the body where you have dry or rough skin but I got it to use on my feet, especially my heels. With all the walking (and a once a week run) my heels are incredibly dry and can be painful so I was looking to soften and soothe them a bit.
Here's a bit about Alva "New to mypure in June 2010, Alva Naturkosmetik is an exciting range of certified organic skin care made in Osnabrück, Germany. Alva was established in 1988 and is now one of Europe's leading natural skin care brands.
The Alva range is split into several categories. The Alva Naturkosmetik range includes essential natural skin care items such as deodorant, shower gel, body lotion etc. For more specialised skin care try the Alva Sanddorn range for anti-ageing products, the Alva Rhassoul range for acne prone and oily skin or the Alva Coleur range for makeup."
And here's the blurb about the product "Alva Foot & Hand Care Anti-Callous Balm with sage, thyme and an active agent from willow bark, will gently reduce calloused skin on the feet, hands, elbows, and knees. Dry, cracked areas of skin will become softer and quickly diminish, with the white willow helping to quell any discomfort associated with cracked skin.
This balm also removes calloused skin caused by pressure points, corns and warts. The efficient alternative to foot smoothers, files and pumice stones. With genuine Manuka Oil and Calendula, an effective and natural anti-fungal agent. Also assists with the therapeutic care of diabetic feet.
Dermatological tests show a 75% reduction of hard, calloused skin in 28 days."
My first impression? The pot is tiny. It's a very dinky 30ml and I wondered how long it would actually last!
I used it all over my feet, concentrating on my heels, and then popped socks on overnight. My feet felt a touch smoother in the morning but no more so then if I was to use a normal foot cream or even a body lotion. In fact, my favourite was to moisturise my feet is to use vaseline with socks overnight - I've been doing it since I was a child and it remains the best way to moisturise my feet!
This cream is really nice on hands, and I would probably recommend it as a hand balm rather than for feet - it feels richly moisturing and my hands really feel soothed and protected. The cream absorbs fairly quickly, but leaves a layer on the skin which is useful if you're going out in the cold or are sitting under air-con or central heating.
The balm has a strong herbal smell that may put some people off, but that I quite like.
This product retails for £12.00 at My Pure but I would say that if used every day as recommended, and for 28 days to see maximum results, the pot would only last a week or so!
Are you a fan of natural/organic body products? Would you pay extra if a product was vegan or didn't contain unnatural substances?
