Anyone who has watched Food, Inc. or who follows food politics is aware of the inhumane conditions that the majority of hens in the United States are kept and raised. For years the Humane Society has been working to create policy that protects both animal (in this case hens) and consumer rights. Finally, they have succeeded!
The Humane Society and United States Egg Producers have reached an agreement that will improve living conditions for hens and impact consumers, by providing more clear labeling to distinguish egg quality and improving food safety.

I personally could not be more happy about this success. Although, the details are not perfect, it is most definitely a positive step in the right direction. Fair treatment of animals is supremely important to me as is food safety and clear consumer labeling. This agreement is long overdue.
