A Social Life

Posted Sep 19 2011 8:53pm

Why, hello there! Long time, no chat. Entirely my fault. I’ve had a really awesome 4-5 days.  It was full of lots of work and even more fun. This made for pretty kick butt weekend, but means I left this little blog high and dry for a few days.

The excitement and energy of this past weekend left me with a high straight through Monday. Somewhere between my always on the go college career, moving to NYC alone, and bb being a busy medical student, I got a little too comfortable being alone. Alone time is great, but not when it is all the time. I was even starting to cancel out on social plans because I was so used to just spending time with myself. This past few days has completely changed that.

Let’s review!

Thursday Night – Concert Night! I love shows and rarely ever get to them anymore. bb and I went to see Two Door Cinema Club at Terminal 5. This venue is pain to get to, but I love it because I can see! It has 3 tiers, which makes it very nice for those of us on the shorter side to actually see the band.

My favorite part of concerts is when the band plays my favorite song. I can’t help but just dance and ignore everyone else around me. It is always those then that I think I never want this song, or this moment to end.

Friday was just a really great double workout day and late night at work.

Saturday was the Fitness Mind Body + Spirit games in Central Park. This was such a fun race! It was at 10 am – not too early. And there were tons of people and a bunch of blogger friends. I found Caitlin and Jillian before the race. I even got to run next to Ali for a bit. She is really inspiring, so it was awesome to be able to chat with her during the race. It gave me a little push.

I was pretty pumped with my official time – 38:34. This was a 9:44 per mile pace. I’m thrilled with this especially since the entire race was rolling hills. All I could think during the race was whoever said New York is flat needs to come run here.

Here’s a great photo of Jillian and I post race.

We went for coffee after and talked for a couple hours. I still cannot believe how easy it is talk with other bloggers. We were in Starbucks for a good couple hours and never had a silent moment. After we separated I headed into Whole Foods completely starved. Bad idea. But my hot bar lunch was great!

That evening I had the pleasure of meeting up with some friends from high school who are in the city now. We enjoyed some drinks, some german food at Cafe Katja , and discovered we had a ton in common.

I had this awesome red wine with hints of berries and plum. It was really smooth and easy to drink.

I ordered 3 side dishes – steamed kale, a mountain of sauerkraut, and a vinaigrette based cucumber and potato salad. The potato salad was topped with fresh dill, which really made the dish.

I had a truly great time with Emily and Lisa.

And we’ve made plans to go see Friendly Fires next month. As well as check out a Russian Bath and get Ethiopian food(one of my favorites!) sometime in the near future. And I’m hoping they are going to join me in the Emerald Nuts Midnight Run on New Year’s Eve.

Sunday I ended up at the lab, going grocery shopping, babysitting, and cleaning the apartment. I did get to squeeze in a great vinyasa yoga class at Equinox with Ashley . I think we both needed it after our long run days. Although her long run was 5 times longer than mine at 20 miles. So impressive!

This morning I met up with Katherine to beat the boredom of the East River park way. Mission accomplished! We did 3.5 miles together and it just flew by. I am addicted to running with a buddy now. After the energy from the race and my two runs with Katherine, I am a bit nervous I will hate running alone now. I am pretty confident though that this is a good thing to be suffering from.

I would like to give a really big thank you all the great ladies I hung out with this weekend, blends and real life friends alike. You’ve reminded me that nothing beats great company.

Although later than normal, I’m going to end the post with the usual Motivational Monday material – music and a quote.

My favorite Two Door Cinema Club song -

Words to Live By – This was on twitter today by Angela from Oh She Glows .

“All life is an experiment. The more experiments you make the better.” ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

This quote reminds me of my weekend and how I need to remember to try more new things and make more new friends!

What was the best part of your weekend?

Have you ever gotten too comfortable spending time alone?
