Ciao bellas! Hope your day is going well! Mine will be filled with snow, blogs and books – my very favorite kind of day
To my best friend, I am affectionately known as a makeup snob. Obviously, I always refute this. I don’t see myself as a snob at all, I just happen to know what to spend money on and what not to
So today I thought I’d give you a little look inside my makeup bag and let you know what I splurge on – and what I save on!
Foundation – Splurge.
Foundation is something that you want to get to match your skin color exactly. There is nothing worse than being that girl with the orange face! It’s possible to find your exact match at the drugstore, but higher end brands offer much more of a color range. I’ve tried many different brands, from low (L’Oreal) to high (MAC), and I’ve settled on VS Soft Focus Liquid Foundation {$16}. It’s not too expensive and the color fits me to a T.
Undereye Concealer – Spurlge.
I’m Italian so dark circles under the eyes kinda comes with the heritage. You want to spend more money if needed on a good brand that will hide that eye baggage all day! Personally, I love Clinique’s All About Eyes {$16}. This tiny little tube last MONTHS and leaves my undereyes silky soft.
Loose Powder – Save.
If you have an oily face (like me), then you probably rely on powder to get rid of that “glow”. But there’s no need to spend a ton of money of powder – translucent powder is all the same! This $3 jar of NYC Translucent Powder does just as good a job as any.
Blush – Save.
Unless you have a reason to be very specific about your shade, the drugstore brand blushes are for you! Right now I use the blush in a Mark compact that a friend bought me. I think it was around $8? But really you don’t even need to spend that much!
Eyeliner – Spurlge.
There was a time when I would ONLY buy MAC kohl eyeliner because I convinced myself there was nothing better. Lower brand blacks just didn’t get dark enough or faded away too easily. However, I tried out VS Eye Liner in Extreme Black on a whim {$8 now on sale for $5} and was shocked to find it was just as good as my MAC! I’ve never looked back
Mascara – Save.
Mascara is another big budget item for some girls when it really doesn’t need to be. With the exception of bright colors (i.e. blue, purple, pink mascara, which I have no idea why you would want), there is no difference between the make up of drugstore and high end brand mascaras. I use Maybelline’s The Falsies which I picked up at CVS for about $5 and it makes my eyelashes look fantastic!
Chapstick – Save.
I never thought it was weird that I don’t wear lipstick until I started dating my boyfriend. I’ve just always liked the natural coloring of my lips, so I stick to chapstick. This chapstick was a gift from my Aunt (I love the flavor!) but I normally buy Yes To Carrots Lip Butters {$12 for 5 pack} because they are made with all natural ingredients and the go on so smoothly.
So there you go! I hope this guide helps you spend your hard earned makeup money wisely
PS – Don’t forget to enter my giveaway if you haven’t yet! I’m picking the winner tonight!
