A Realistic Diet: Good Foods, Resveratrol & Supplements - My Story (Part 3)

Posted Nov 25 2008 11:14am

I use the term "realistic" often when describing my routines.  It's not to make you sick of the term, rather I use it emphasize how important it is to be realistic about your approach.  Whether it's your diet, fitness routine, or your goals, realism will keep you on the right track.  If you think you can lose 40% of your body weight in one month you're just not being realistic.

When it comes to diet I am not overly strict about what I can and can't eat.  I don't starve myself by eating tiny portions of foods with little substance.  I focus on eating foods I like, that just happen to be pretty healthy.  For me this includes eggs, chicken, rice, several types of fish, sweet potatoes, and an array of vegetables.

Here's an example of what a day of eating looks like for me:

Breakfast - A whole wheat bagel, egg whites, slice of cheese, and turkey sausage.  It makes for a great sandwich.  The local bagel shop prepares them when I'm on the run.

Morning Supplements - Multi Vitamin, Glutamine, Branch Chain Amino Acids (BCAA's),  & essential amino acids.

Lunch - I typically eat a pre-made microwavable lunch.  A favorite of mine is turkey with sweet potatoes and green vegetables.  They are easy when you have time constraints and are filling enough to get me through a workout.

Pre-Workout Supplements -Resveratrol, Glutamine, BCAA's, Amino's, & Caffeine.

Post-workout Supplements -Creatine, BCAA's, Amino's, Protein Shake

Post-Workout Snack - Pineapple cubes.

Dinner - Grilled Chicken, Whole Grain Rice, & Asparagus.

Night Time Snack - popcorn made fresh with olive oil.

Pre-Bed Supplements - Natural HGH enhancer with GABA.

For the most part I am a creature of habit.  I enjoy eating the same foods over and over again so keeping a diet is pretty easy for me.  I encourage you to experiment with foods.  Try something new, and healthy, each time you go to the market.  Cut out the labels of anything you might like and keep it in a folder so you don't forget about it.

How did you find Resveratrol?

I found resveratrol while researching stocks in early 2008.  As a hobby I enjoy researching companies and finding those "undiscovered" gems.  This time I happened across Sirtris Pharmaceuticals.  I was intrigued by the studies they had completed and the pharmaceuticals they developed.  After further research and recommendations from an expert in supplements I was willing to try it out.  You can read more about this in a previous post called "Lets get started!! My background information."

My experience with Resveratrol has led me to believe there is truth to the studies that have been done on mice.  In a short period of time my endurance levels have increased dramatically, I am able to eat well and still lose weight, and my sleeping habits are much better.

However, sticking with my realistic approach I can not say for sure all of this is because of the resveratrol.  There could be some placebo effect involved.  As a note: I didn't start the other supplements until I was on resveratrol for 6 months.  Browse the site and you will see more detailed explanations of my experience with resveratrol.

Keep in mind you don't have to make changes over night.  As they say, "Rome wasn't built in a day!"  Take your time and find out what you like.  Once you do, STICK TO IT!   The benefits will certainly out weight the hard work...

Live Longer,

Markus
