Leaving on a road trip isn’t the easiest thing to do in New York City. For most New Yorkers, who don’t own a car, there are a few added steps involved:
lug luggage downstairs
wait in the cold, windy air for a cab in the midst of 5pm rush hour
stuff way too much luggage into the back of a cab
find the Enterprise rental car location (which has a sign that is only 2 feet X 3 feet large)
spend 30 minutes (on a good day) making your way out of NYC via the West Side Highway
But, as you can tell from the car clock in the above picture, we successfully made our goal of hitting the West Side Highway by 6pm!
Within minutes of buckling our seatbelts the entire car was filled with laughter and stories. Car trips are the perfect time to bond with friends over funny childhood stories, embarrassing college memories, and laughter from looking at the "When Parents Text" website.
An hour outside of New York City our stomachs started to growl. We agreed that it was best to stop for both dinner and gas early versus later.
Oh yes, please believe, New York has two story rest stops! Lucky for Bo, we were able to find his favorite fast food restaurant at this rest stop.
Bo was excited about his Quizno’s sandwich but Meghann and I were more interested in the pickle and pepper bar! I actually tried my first pepperocini tonight! I avoided these cute little peppers for years when they came inside our Papa John pizza boxes! Why didn’t anyone ever tell me how delicious they are?
While the boys waited for our orders, Meghann and I amused ourselves in the rest stop.
Both couples ordered identically, each girl enjoying a honey bourbon chicken while the boys stuck to the ‘trad or traditional.
This sandwich hit the spot but it wasn’t the easiest to eat in the back seat of a car. Lucky for us, Bo grabbed plenty of napkins from Quiznos.

See you in Vermont!
