A Hard Workout

Posted Jan 13 2009 12:00am
I really had to struggle not to throw up during my workout with B. today.

But let me back up. Holy stress eating, batman! At around 3:30 PM I found out I have to lead a training on something I basically don't even know how to do (I'm a software trainer because I'm good at teaching, not because I'm good at software...!), and then at 4 PM I scarfed a Larabar, a fortune cookie, and half a container of homemade granola I got from the downstairs cafe yesterday - probably about half a cup, and certainly baked with a LOT of sugar and oil. Ooooops. Put me up to about 1,400 calories for the day, so not a terrible tragedy. But then I went to my personal training session at 5 PM, and I could feel that granola sloshing around with a few ounces of diet Coke I'd had with it and... ugh. Not good.

I might've mentioned this earlier - I'm trying to go to personal training 2x a week during my Biggest Loser competition, which is what I was doing for a few months in the fall when I lost ten or fifteen pounds without really noticing. I'm hoping the same phenomenon will happen during these ten weeks.

Today we had a hard cardio workout and after my first fifteen minutes I already wanted to head home for my couch. We alternated 60 seconds of jumping rope as fast as I could stand (something I don't really like and never do on my own) and then 15 seconds of running on the manual treadmill at a high incline as fast as I could "sprint," for three sets. Then we did some random agility exercises that I'm pretty sure B. picked up from his years as a team athlete - another type of thing that's not my favorite, because it emphasizes how much I need to work on quickness and coordination!

And then he brought out... the slide board of DOOM. I hate this thing with a passion, mostly because it makes me feel like an idiot.

Now, let me take a moment to say that long ago I gave up trying to look cool at the gym. I'm there to get in shape and get healthy - that's the most important thing! But hey, even I have limits...

So I had to put on the stupid booties and do side-to-side lunges/slides and mountain climbers and I really thought I would either puke or collapse. I didn't. But I did sweat all over B. - seriously, during the mountain climbers the sweat was flying off my head and I'm sure hitting him in the face. Eek, sorry. I worry even LESS what I look like in front of him, because God knows he's seen me in some pretty compromising states. Ha. Perhaps someday I'll blog about a girl's relationship with her personal trainer!

Anyway, I made it through some crunches and a cool-down and now I am sitting on my couch, as I have been for the past two hours. If you'll excuse me, Becca and I are chatting on AIM while watching the "real" Biggest Loser. It's Week Two for us too!
