I’ve written about fiber before and most of us already know that fiber is good for us. Consider this a friendly reminder that we need that stuff!
Here’s why fiber is good for us:
– prevents constipation
– lowers risk of IBS, diverticular disease, and hemorrhoids
– slows body’s absorption of sugars
– lowers risk of type 2 diabetes
– aids in weight loss by helping us feel fuller for longer
You can find fiber in whole grains, fruits, vegetables, beans, legumes, nuts, and seeds.
Recommendations for fiber intake are 38 g for men and 25 g for women under age 50 and 30 g for men and 21 g for women ages 51 and up.
If you’re already eating plenty of fruits, veggies, and whole grains, you’re probably getting enough fiber. If you feel you aren’t getting enough, make the simple changes to get enough!
