A case of blog envy...

Posted Nov 30 2008 12:21pm
Now that I've decided to start writing this blog, my mind has been racing about all of the things that I need to explain or describe about me and my life. First off, I feel I should explain the title of this blog by stating that not too long ago, I realized that I was suffering from a slight case of blog envy.

For the past couple years I have gotten into the habit of reading my friends' blogs on a regular basis and I found myself wishing that I had a little space on the internet too. A place to share news, photos and even just random thoughts...I realized that what I had was blog envy.

Definition: blog envy (blŏg en-vee)

1. intr.v. To write entries in, add material to, or maintain a weblog. [(we)blog.] blog·ger n.
2. verb (used with object)to regard with envy; be envious of
Example: She envies the blogs of her friends and endeavours to have one of her own.

So which are the blogs that got me hooked? Here a few of my favorites...

  • Adventures in Letterpress - as the name suggests, this blog chronicles one of my best friends' foray into custom letterpress as she builds her own business. Launched a couple of years ago, Sunlit Media is a full-service graphic design firm that my friend Erin has built from the ground up. Custom letterpress is the latest arm of the business that she has added and so far it has really taken off and her printing studio is a very busy place! Erin designs the most beautiful wedding invitations, calling/business cards and custom stationery. For example, this was her gift to me this christmas...

  • Runner Gal Leana - this blog is cool because it started as my friend's quest to become an endurance runner. Leana and I went to university together and did a bit of running together at the time. Neither one of us was an endurance runner by any means! So, after moving to Texas and then back up to Calgary after graduation, Leana set herself the goal of finishing the Goofy Race and a Half Challenge at Walt Disney World this past January. She chronicled her entire training program for the year and I have to say it was very inspiring to watch someone set such a lofty goal and achieve it with a smile on her face.

  • Poco Family - I've been following various blogs from my friend Lisa starting with her trips to Thailand and New York, then she started a blog chronicling her first pregnancy and now the blog as become a way to stay up to date with her and her family since little Georgia came into the world. This blog is a reminder of how difficult it can be to stay in touch these days.

So these are just a sampling of the blogs I've been reading and I'm always adding more to the repertoire.
