On the drive there, Michael commented that I appeared a little nervous. I’m not really sure that it was nerves, but I was wondering what the whole thing would be like and just wasn’t sure what to expect.
But as soon as we drove up to our campsite, any possible anxiety turned into excitement.
From setting up the tent…
To taking a hike through the woods…
I loved every part of the experience!
Of course, I packed lots of healthy food like apples and nuts and made us some yummy sandwiches for dinner (avocado and tomato on sprouted rye for me).
I’m pretty sure that we ate dinner at the same time as all the local nursing homes, but we worked up our appetites on the hike!
It was so nice to listen to all of the sounds of nature at night as we were bundled up in our sleeping bag. Although, I do have to admit that some of noises made my imagination run wild. At one point, I jumped up thinking that there was a bird in our tent. Luckily, Michael informed me that they were just leaves falling.
When we packed up our belongings on Sunday morning, I told Michael that I cannot wait to go camping again soon.
Before the trip, I never would have expected to feel that way!
Moral of the story- try something new every now and then and break out of your comfort zone (even if it means parting with your hair dryer for a day).
Have you ever been camping?
When was the last time that you tried something new? Did you end up liking it?
Brittney and Erin- the Altapass orchard is about ten minutes from one of my favorite places in the world- Springmaid Mountain. They have tent camping there, but also really fantastic little (and big) cabins if you’re like me and require restrooms, showers, etc. Just wanted to mention it, in case either of you look for a new camping spot sometime!
I’m so glad you had fun camping! It’s one of my very favorite things to do. My friends and I used to camp all the time in college (that’s what you do in Utah). And hub & I spent 60 nights in a tent while traveling through Africa. I really want to take Molly next summer – perhaps we should rally the troops and all go!
I told Michael that you slept in a tent for 60 nights, and he was all impressed and asked for the story behind it. That is incredible, Cindy! Not sure if I’m ready for that quite yet, but a group camping trip with our crew sounds like a blast!
I’m so glad you had such a fun time camping! I’m like you- I prefer indoors and running water. But Jeff is an eagle scout and has lived outdoors for months at a time. I’ve been forced to go camping many times over the years and the hype is always much worse than the actual experience!
It honestly wasn’t THAT bad temperature-wise, and I am ALWAYS cold. It did get pretty chilly in the evening, so I layered my clothes and wore really heavy socks. During the night, I stayed pretty warm, but it was all thanks to the sleeping bag. It was really warm! I did bring an extra blanket just in case. If we remembered to bring cash, we could have bought firewood. That would have helped for sure. The worst part was sticking my hand in the cooler and sifting through the ice to grab a beer!
Love that you took the plunge and enjoyed camping. I HEART Camping:) The last time I really tried something new and took the plunge was this Spring and starting a blog – loving every minute of it! Have a Great Week:)
