A Break in Routine

Posted Feb 03 2012 10:21am

This past week has certainly been…off.

Monday night’s concierge dinner was a really enjoyable time; I always love getting together with the other concierge. We are a fun bunch!

The next morning, however, David came home shivering, burning up and with extreme back pain. As the days went one, his throat became so painful that he couldn’t swallow anything. He went to the doctor’s on Tuesday and they prescribed him some pain medication for his back and eventually antibiotics for what they thought was strep. He didn’t have a fever though. Come Wednesday afternoon and he can’t keep his antibiotics down, at all. One call to his doctor and they say he should go to the ER. So that’s where Wednesday night was spent. He ended up with a high fever and strep throat. The doctors and staff at the Cambridge hospital were amazing though and he was feeling better within three hours; we were out of there and heading home just after four and a half. It pained me to see how much pain he was in. He hasn’t been able to eat or sleep regularly since Monday night. The medicine is working for him though and I hope it’s out of his system soon. The first 24 hours after he was administered antibiotics he was considered contagious. I’ve taken the necessary precautions and hopefully won’t catch it myself. Crossing my fingers!

Monday also ended my 7 day work stretch and I was definitely looking forward to a relaxing two days off. I decided to pass on the cocktail party on Tuesday because I wanted to stay home and take care of David. Wednesday was spent taking care of David. Even though I was looking forward to a day where I had nothing planned and nothing to do, I am glad that I was able to be around to take care of him and take him to the ER.

Over the last week though, my energy has been sort of zapped as well. I’ve only gone running once and worked out once in the apartment this past week. I have an 11-miler planned tomorrow that I am definitely not going to skip, though. My days used to be: wake up at 8, run at 9, full breakfast at 10, shower at 11, lounge/TV at noon and then on the bus at 1 to go to work. I loved those days where I had that routine and it worked for me. Working mornings definitely mess with that. And I hate to say that I feel guilty for missing that, because I know that I have another person to consider when planning my days too. It’s an adjustment to have David back home after 10 months and I know that it’s something we’ll continue to work on and hopefully get into the same groove. Since I work (mostly) second shift and he works third, our days don’t meet up like we would like.

I feel like the blog has kind of gone to the wayside too. I miss posting recipes and trying out new dishes in the kitchen. I’m sure that once we have our own house, that will change. It’ll just all take time. The next few months will continue to be a transition with having David home, and we’ll certainly be kept busy with the house and work.

I will tell you though, I cannot WAIT for my vacation to start in a few weeks. It’ll be much needed.

This morning, no run. I know that we all have those weeks and I’m glad that unlike past training plans, it hasn’t become the norm. This week is just off for me, but I’m sure it’ll come back.

Breakfast this morning was something light, just toast with crunchy peanut butter and an orange. Needs me some vitamin C!
